I would continue practicing MCQs. When you get something wrong try to understand what you did wrong. Take notes of these errors. That’s what helped me. I started a word document of stuff that I was getting wrong and used that for my review. I firmly believe that this strategy is what helped me finally pass AUD. It was the hardest one for me to pass due to the subjective nature. Good luck!

Thanks! I see it took you 5 times to pass. I’ll be happy if the 5th time is the charm for me too 🙂

HI Jason, you are in exact position as I was with Audit. After passing all sections, I only had one test remaining(failed audit for 4 times) until two scores were going to expired. By the fifth time, I had done 1000s of MCqs from Ninja and Rogers. What helped me pass the test was buying GLEIM test bank and destroy their sims(GLEIM sims are hard). I would give it all and hope for the best. Also Practice AICPA sims.

I would say also try and identify areas that if you had to explain to someone you were unable to and then study those. Maybe take a family member and pretend they are a CPA candidate and explain it to them and see if you are able to or not. Or what I'd also do is say it out loud to an imaginary student.

For me personally, those areas I could not explain were SSARS and SSAE, trying to understand all the nuances in the different reports. As well, I made sure that I understood the work papers and how to critique them.

For you it may be different areas such as the internal control structure or how Control Risk affects Audit Risk. Just identify areas you can't explain to others, when you are able to explain simply and effectively then you understand the topic.

I am struggling to focus for AUD. I feel so burnt out lately. I just passed FAR and REG back to back. I am full time student until January when I start at big four, and I am taking AUD right between my training. But ugh, AUD is so boring!

I did non stop MCQ for AUD, prbly 3000+ mcq. I didn’t really prepare for SIMs but I took notes on every MCQ I got wrong and made sure I understand each answer was wrong. Good luck!

I have the same advice for retakes and feeling burned-out–get a temporary change of scenery.

Put away the CPA exam prep materials (eg NINJA, Roger, etc). Instead, pick one area (eg with AUD the business cycles) and go on an information blitz for 1 or 2 days.

Endeavor to become an expert in (eg) understanding the different steps, control activities, etc of each major business cycle. Search YouTube, internet in general, your old college textbook.

Your focus is to just increase your knowledge base (and regain confidence). Write whatever notes you need (eg 1-2 pages). Study it.

When you're comfortable with it, then incorporate into you test prep notes.

Additionally, I would know COLD for audit: (1) difference between $ubstantive tests and control tests (AUD is only exam you want to evaluate and eliminate choices); (2) which report has blank language (eg a review consists of ….); (3) how to manipulate the ratios (eg this will increase current ratio); (4) the various details of each business cycle (each step, control activity, evidence required to test MGT assertions); and (5) differences among the various attest and assurance engagements.

There are other areas of note. Don't ignore IT or other areas. But if you hit those 5 very well you should be fine. And, with respect to IT, if you can differentiate $ubstantive vs control testing you can eliminate choices.

    Hope this helps.

mechanical memororizing may work…but not the best way.

Audit is a system. you need to understand it from the big picture and then into details………..

No one can help you. Only you can help yourself by vigorously studying the material and using effective study methods. This exam is not a sprint – it’s a marathon!
