    Hey Everyone,

I’m taking AUD in a few weeks and was wondering what I should study to practice for the simulations. Are there any simulations that seem to show up numerous times on the AUD exam? Also, is there a multiple section that I should focus on more than the others? I have put in a good amount of time with the multiple choice sections, but have given little time to simulations.

    AUD - 81 (6/2011)
    FAR - 76 (12/2011)
    BEC - 80 (6/2012)
    REG - 82 (8/2012)

Totally doable - just put in the work!

The kind of info you are requesting goes against what we're allowed to disclose (we = those who have taken audit). I can tell you that I used Becker review and I passed on the first try.. but I took it also after 3 busy seasons of auditing.

I've never ever ever done a practice simulation. I've only concentrated on the practice multiple choice questions. I've passed audit, bec and far..waiting on reg. I guess it just depends on how you do with application. I often find that if I re-do the “problem solving” type of examples in the lectures, that's enough for me..it just depends on how you test.

    good luck

I feel like if you are very strong on the MC, you should done well enough on the sims to pass. I worked all the Becker sims for REG, but I didn't know them “inside and out”. I got totally different, and totally whacky sims on the real REG exam, but I knew enough from the MC to pass 🙂 And so far from what I have seen in Becker, the sims have been an extended version of multiple MCQ's put together in some other type of format. Good luck!

    REG 79 (Becker); BEC 63 (Becker) 70 (Yaeger); AUD 66 (Becker; 11/30 - Becker); FAR 11/24 (Yaeger/Wiley)

The practice sims are good to help you study — to teach you to reach into your brain and pull out concepts to apply to the problem and work the answer. based on what I've heard (which makes sense), it is very unlikely that you will see anything on your practice simulation that will resemble the actual simulations. with this expectation, i've personally placed higher priority on the practice MCs before practice sims. since I've never felt like I've had enough time to study, I've never done a practice simulation. if i had tons of time to study, then I'd probably give the practice sims a shot.

my point is, don't practice the sims thinking they're going to give you some sort of edge when you take the actual exam. it is just another way to help you learn the concepts, similar to doing MCs and reading the book. so prioritize accordingly!

I agree with the others that there is no way to study for simulations. Some candidates do not even bother with studying for simulations. I used Becker and would recommend you concentrate on the multiple choice questions. I would only review the practice simulations and read the answers to the problems. Reviewing the simulations will show you some of the ways that the CPA exam can structure a simulation. I think Becker does a good job in that respect however as far as the subject matter of the simulation there is no telling what you might get. Good Luck.
