AnonymousInactiveWhere do you draw the line between “good at guessing AUD questions” and “actually knowing the answer”?
So many MCQs I do are just, pretty much, solved by process of elimination, picking the only reasonable/logical answer, or just a good guess based on wording/past knowledge.
I'm not sure if I'm actually LEARNING stuff, or I'm just good at guessing/answering questions. This wasn't really an issue with FAR, where either you know it or you're getting it wrong, but AUD is so much different. I mean, on one hand, it's great that I'm getting 90%+ on almost every MCQ set the first time around, but on the other hand, do I actually know the material? Or am I just good at answering the questions?

PumpkinsMemberHi Dragnets, I think that being good at guessing the answer is part of the skill. A lot of AUD questions have two answers that seem like they could work. However, as you do enough MCQs, you start to be able to know which answer they are looking for… usually it comes from one buzz word in the question. This is important as many exam questions will not have one clear correct answer.
As long as you are getting them right, that's all that matters! 🙂
AUD- 93

Kls238MemberDragnets, I found myself doing the same as you are with the same results (80-90%). I know you might be already doing this to eliminate the wrong answers, but focus on the wrong answers and what would make them correct. That way you know you're really understanding the concept as a whole and not just guessing.
Passed all sections.

QladMembergave my exam on friday…best advice from me is keep ur legs with u and do not knock down the cable that connects the PC…lol….thats what happened to me…and i wasted a few min. to get all connected again…. i m smiling now…it was not fun at that time…
for the exam…it was tough…much more tougher than the 2 times i already gave…i spent more time on mcqs as i got weak on those in the last 2 times…but when i reached sims, i felt i did a mistake…in panic i was blank on j/e and wasn't sure what i was doing…took 14 min each to find the 2 research questions…and wasn't sure if they were correct….got an AL question but cud not find it anywhere…just guessed too much on sims….it was in total a confusing day…still hopes r not totally crushed so waiting for result day now…

cpain2015Participant@sunlessC …What do you mean? I am using CPAExcel to study
FAR - 73, 75 PASSED
AUD - 74, 96
BEC - 79
REG - 89! Done. I'm a CPA!!July 21, 2014 at 6:25 pm #593121
gflurryMember@sunlessC: I used CPAexcel exclusively for 80 percent of my studying for AUD and earned a 67. I went through each section, (I began watching all the videos, but realized it was just a repeat of the book material with no added benefits, so I stopped) took notes and did the MCQ's in study mode to learn while quizzing. It was not until the last 3 weeks before the exam that I started using CPAreviewforfree and 2 weeks before I got Ninja Notes. Since my first attempt, I have been using Ninja MCQ and CPAexcel for SIMS (I like their search AL function better). I feel much better about the material now, like I “understand” the concepts. I also felt that it was too easy to memorize the answers in CPAexcel, at that point it is usless to continue with the same material.
AUD: 67, 81 (NINJA MCQ's ONLY for 2nd Attempt)
FAR: NOT GOOD, LARRY!
REG: ??
BEC: 4/4/2015"F**K CALM, GET MAD. DESTROY!"

sunlessCMember@cpain2014 I just don't think anything is even remotely adequately explained. At the beginning it's fine because it's just an introduction to auditing and audit planning and the material is good enough to cover that. The lectures and book cover generally what the MCQs and sims are asking about.
But those are very “general” topics.
I feel like they make NO effort to explain anything specific, which is exactly what later sections on internal control and audit evidence are covering. Specific audit procedures, specific documents, specific evidence, specific functions of departments or personnel. They go into 0 depth on anything specific. I know they can't be expected to cover every situation an MCQ might cover, that is an unreasonable amount of material and MCQs are more efficient at teaching in that regard. But I read questions and have absolutely NO idea what to do, how to approach the question, how to think through the audit procedures presented. I don't know the best way to approach this audit issue because I am not an auditor and I don't know what any of these things even set out to accomplish.
My friend is using Becker and he finished AUD so I am reading his AUD book. There is actual detail and explanation and procedures in the Becker book. If CPAexcel included half of what the Becker book included I would feel a lot better. Just as a simple example, CPAexcel explains what “kiting” is in one sentence and moves on. Becker explains what kiting is, how kiting is detected, what to look for to identify kiting, audit procedures. Everything you need to know to answer a question about kiting. This is just one small topic, one example of CPAexcel's inability to explain anything adequately. I feel like CPAexcel is teaching this stuff under the assumption that you've been an auditor for a couple of years. “Here's a refresher on the stuff you do professionally every day” they say, never mind the fact that not all CPA candidates have real world experience, or hell, they do but they're just not auditors.

CpachanceParticipantI'm sure this has been asked before but can you not see the answers to the simulations on the Ninja software? Maybe it is just the ipad or I am doing something wrong but mine only shows me scores
