I'm taking Audit July 2nd (took it in April and failed by 2 points) and as I'm going back through everything I'm doing really well on all the multiple choice and sims but when I get to the transaction cycles I get stuck. For some reason they're giving me so much trouble and I just can't seem to get past it. I've tried going over them so many times and so many different approaches and nothing seems to help me grasp the topics. Anyone have the same issue or have any suggestions? I'm really losing motivation and getting extremely frustrated. Please help!!

What are you using to study? It's funny you should mention them b/c I am rereading the chapter in my Becker review book today b/c I definitively didn't get it 100% the first time. Without getting into specifics I think it helps to think like an auditor. But as for specifics Its best to start with the basics and move from there, that's what I think, what the 6 mgt assertions are, the tools to test those assertions, what assertions go with the F/S items, (balance/trans/disc). Then move on from there. Also helps to have a good understanding of what vouching and tracing are use and are for…

I'm using Becker too. I'm definitely gonna try doing that because right now I feel like I'm focusing so much on the cycle itself and don't completely understand the underlying principles to begin with. I need to try to see the big picture and put together all the underlying principles. This is definitely my weakest point from last time, I can get through the multiple choice okay but when I get a simulation on them I'm screwed (simulations are definitely what cost me the exam last time). Thanks for your advice!

Your welcome! btw make sure you get a good handle on analytical procedures (when used: beginning, to obtain understanding, middle as substantive tests and the end of the audit to evaluate findings) and tests of details. After you learn all the basics for the chapter reread it and it might come together for you better. I felt very confused when I first read this chapter but after reading it one day and waking up to the multiple choice the next I felt like I mighta learned something 😉 Here's to conquering that exam on 7/29.

I'm using becker for my AUD round 2 in august and having a hard time making notes can anybody please share their strategy on making notes? Also if I buy the ninja notes and supplement with becker study material does it mean I will not have to make my own notes and is it better to buy JEFF's NINJA audio notes or the regular notes?

So I have one week left before my AUD exam. I'm going to spend the week hitting MCQ's like crazy and going over notes.

@Zubairs – I'm not normally a note taker, but I found notes to be really helpful for cpa exams. Ninja notes helps cut down on note taking, but I still write down things that are said in my video lessons and also things that come up while doing MCQ's. You will find different opinions here on the forums about whether to get Ninja audio or notes. I think it depends on how you learn best. Have you picked up the free examples that Jeff has available?

    Notes are simple.

Just write down things you don't know. Points or facts or tidbits that you pick up from reading the lectures or doing MCQ's. Write the concept down. Stuff like:

    – Reviews use Inquiry and Analytical Procedures during the engagement. Limited assurance.

    – Specialist do not require independence.

    – Issuers have 45 days to report significant deficiencies; nonissuers have 60 days.

Etc. etc. The point is to bring clarity to items that you didn't have a strong understanding of and just write it on paper to help reinforce that information.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

    Hello Zubair,

I agree with Inferno. I made my bullet point notes as i did the lectures. I used small cards so that it would be my notes and flash cards. It is time consuming but it makes a difference to just writing it down and then skimming through them a week before the exam.

I also read all the Audit reports aloud. It helps me remember it better. Not saying i know it by heart but the key parts that are tested in the exam become more easier to know.

If you do not want to hand write them use your computer and type it out.

    20 days to my D day…. Having a hard time concentrating 🙁

Yeah, I have two weeks before my exam. I feel like I'm doing exceptionally well on the Wiley Question scoring mostly in the mid-80's. I'm almost done doing all of the MCQ's for Wiley. Wiley still has a way with hitting me with questions that come completely out of left field (random concepts from FAR).

I've been pounding out MCQ's as hard as possible, but I think I'm going to attempt to read the Becker book one more time in its entirety very extensively. Essentially, I read through and as long as everything I'm reading makes sense and I understand it clearly I'm fine. However, if I run into concepts or points that make me raise a brow or that I hesitate in understanding, I immediately pull out the pen and start taking notes in bullet point form.

I have this “Master List” of notes that's about 17 pages single-spaced worth of notes in Google Docs. Still piling, lol. I'll be using this sheet as my final review sheet so that I'm reinforcing all my weak topics and points.

    Hopefully this will be enough.

Is your Wiley Working? Mine is down 🙁 Seems there are others that are complaining they have the same issue too.

I am working on Gleim in the mean time. I find the questions there pretty hard. Want to do all the Gleim questions and then Wiley test bank again.

Need to practice more on my SIM's as i suck there..

I'll be honest. I hate practicing SIMS.

I feel like I can go through hundreds and hundreds of MCQ's. I can read pages and pages of the book. No breaks needed.

But I feel like Sims drain all the life out of me instantly. I can only do a very small amount of Sims until I feel like I'm just done for the entire day. I hate Sims with a passion.

@infernoOmni – I can totally related to Sims being draining. Some of the AUD Sims seem to drag on forever.I don't like doing them, but I do them anyway.

i am glad i am not alone then 🙂

I agree i can do many Mcq's some times i get annoyed i missed the MCQ but mostly i can do many in a day. Reading – I like Rogers Note book so i like to just refresh the brain.

SIM's i think its just my nerves now. Knowing that i am bad at it makes me more depressed when i am doing them ..
