I scored a 74 on AUD, but today is a new day, and motivation to restudy and retake is like a fire that has had gasoline dumped on it.

I’ve applied for a new NTS, and plan on retaking next Friday, to be included in the Aug 25 score release. I’ve done light studying the last two weeks. Is it reasonable and a good idea to try and sit for this exam by next Friday?

They say a retake requires a fresh, new start. Don’t rush yourself. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Regroup and approach it as a new exam because that is what it is. For AUD, I highly recommend reading and reviewing the standards. The way they are organized are how the process unfolds. You have to know the process and where you are in the process to answer each carefully worded question correctly. Always use the clarified standards: https://www.aicpa.org/research/standards/auditattest.html
Print this page and review and refer to it as you study: https://www.aicpa.org/research/standards/auditattest/clarifiedsas.html

You can do this! Good luck!

Thank you, and I appreciate your input and advice. While I am a bit disappointed in scoring a 74, I felt I was going to receive a lower score this time around, so seeing a 74 was nice, in the fact that I did better than I had anticipated. My last score report showed I was comparable in MCQs and weak in Sims. Along with comparable in Ethics and stronger in Forming conclusions and reporting. I also feel having scored a 73 and 74 back to back is an indication that I have an okay grasp, just need to strengthen some key areas.

I guess I have a feeling of urgency here has I have an exam that will expire in October, so I want to try and maximize my attempts. I know the areas I'm good with and the areas I'm not so good with it. Thank you again for your input and those links, they seem very valuable.

I think you will do great next time. To be clear, I am not suggesting reading every standard but read at least one all the way through – knowing how the standards are structured and written helps put the exam in context. Knowing how they are organized on the page I suggested you print demonstrates the process as it unfolds. This exam is all standards based. I looked at that page and found the associated standard while doing MCQs. It helped me search and find answers really fast for the SIMs during the exam.
You are going to knock this out before your credit expires. Don't psych yourself out. Study to pass always, think positively. Dig deep. You've got this!!

@CH89, you are right there. Keep the good attitude and I agree that I think you will do great the next time. AUD is tough, one word in the question can make all the difference. Monikernc gave you some awesome links there. You got this!

I decided to go for it, and re-take AUD today. Walking out of the testing center I felt okay. Confident enough to feel that I did not completely bomb it, but a bit lacking knowing I got some MCQs wrong, and a feeling that some of the simulations could have gone good or bad. For my testing experience:

I felt good on the first set of MCQs. There were definitely a few I wasn't sure off, but I felt I was able to narrow down the answers to at least 2, or explain to myself why that one answer was correct. The second set of MCQs, was a bit different. I'm unsure if it was a more difficult set, but the questions were definitely longer and wordier, with a few odd ball questions thrown in the mix. I felt there was more on the second set of MCQs that I didn't know compared to the first set.

Simulations were okay. I felt good about a couple of them, while others I felt were very subjective and could have gone either way. I was actually excited about one of the simulations I had to complete. There were definitely times where I was completely unsure, but feels normal when it comes to me dealing with simulations. I was a bit bummed in receiving two Research Questions. I assume one of these was a pre-test, but I did feel confident in both of my answers for those.

Here's hoping to the best come next score release. I think I will definitely continuously review AUD, or at least go over the book and notes provided in the review course.
