AnonymousInactive@yankeeaccountant – I am not sure if this is a good idea…but it works on me. here is my formula of my study plan:
70 * 90% = 63
30 * 50% = 15
Total score : 78
The 70 presents most basic AUD concepts that are easy to understand and memorize, such as engagements, opinions, and rules.
The 30 presents hard topics such as control, business cycles. Those topics were killing me. It seems no matter how many times I read and understood the textbook, I would never got the majority of practice questions right. Those questions are tricky and it seems my common sense works better than applying knowledge I learned from the textbook.
The magic number on my plan is the 90% I tried to get on those basic AUD knowledge. I made sure I understand those concepts inside out, and I leave no room for errors/mistakes. That way would leave me some room for mistakes on the hard ones such as SIM. I figured if I got the basic right I could pass the test even take a 50/50 guess on the rest.
I am a new guy here, but I believe many people did not pass the test NOT because they made mistakes on the hard questions but got tricked on the easy ones.
I did not even bother to study FAR entries. I think I accept that scope limitation. 🙂 I could be screwed if I had those in my test though…but I figure the time to study those entries won't be efficient compared to the time I spent to better understand the AUD concepts….sometimes for guys like me who probably won't score a 90s in these exams, luck has something to with it…

AnonymousInactiveI think Cut-off review is to review AFTER year-end transactions? The transaction took place after year-end but before/on the date of Audit report.

AnonymousInactiveI'm pretty sure there's risk of both early cut-off and late cut-off, so it's necessary to test transactions immediately before and after year-end.

PeanutParticipantRe-posting this.. Anyone?? :Can anyone tell me how the Wiley MCQs were compared to the actual exam?? I've heard on here that the Becker questions were great for AUD, I completed all of those MCQs a couple of weeks ago and found them somewhat “easy.” I'm almost done going through the Wiley MCQs but man are they kicking my butt!!! What did you guys think about Wiley for AUD?!
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58September 26, 2011 at 11:43 pm #373423
yankeeaccountantParticipant@cpaconvertible,
I apologize I didn't see you great post. Thank you so much for sharing it. I think that the 30 percent is what killed me. I think I am going to get the Yaeger cram so that I could finally get an understanding of the tough parts. I actually tested consistently about 79% on tests in Wiley, so I have no idea what happened. So, I guess I have to call in the big guns and go with Gary and Yaeger.
@Peanut–congrats again on REG. I thought I posted on your question, but that week, posts were disappearing. I haven't passed Audit (my worst scores ever only on Audit!!!) but the Wiley testbank IMO were great for the exam. I used Becker and Wiley and I used cpareviewforfree. Wiley was a good representation of what you get the test. When is your test? I think you are on a roll, you are going to ace it!

PeanutParticipant@yankeeaccountant, Thank you! I'm trying to sit for AUD this Saturday the first.. But I'm trying to register for a NTS for AUD, FAR, and BEC (taking all next window) , FAR still won't show up for me to register!! Had to call the NY state board, they are supposed to fix my account by tomorrow. Getting nervous 🙁 Wiley MCQs are killing my confidence. I thought the Becker questions were pretty straight forward.. was scoring 80s on all progress tests. Then BAM Wiley questions, scoring 68% my first time through :/ I have 4 days to really get my act together. Have been re-writing my notes which is taking forever… When are you sitting for AUD?!
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58September 27, 2011 at 12:41 am #373425
yankeeaccountantParticipantI will be sending you good vibes from Chi-town on the 1st—can you believe my 30th high school reunion???!! OMG.
Wiley mcq's were tougher for me as well. I just kept hammering them. Don't lose faith. You will do it. Repetition, baby! Rewriting notes is good–probably the one thing I didn't do. I bought a 5 subject notebook to do the same. I will sit on 11/1 for REG and then Nov 23 for Audit. I really don't want to have another Turkey Day studying, so I am cramming Audit in the day before. Hope that is a good decision. I admire you to tackle all three this window. Do you have a job in the wings?
You got this P-nut!

jomarieParticipant@yankee – I'm going to be studying on Turkey Day!! Well I figured nobody comes over until later anyways and if I don't know it by then, then forget it!! I've scheduled FAR the day after Turkey Day at 12:30. Am I nuts????? Maybe!!!
Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!September 27, 2011 at 2:47 am #373427
yankeeaccountantParticipantNot Nuts at all!! You are a woman on a mission. 🙂
Honestly, if I thought it wouldn't cause such a disturbance in the force (haha), I would take the extra day or so, but not optimistic. Still haven't told my hubby I missed REG. I think we are operating like the military: Don't ask, don't tell!. Sad, I know!
Let's get Audit out of the way!
September 27, 2011 at 3:38 am #373428
fgParticipantQuestions for those who use Becker with lecture:
1. Do you listen to the lecture over and over again?
2. After highlighting, I read the whole thing once, then 2nd time, I tend to read just the highlighted area? That's probably not good enough? Isn't it?
Thanks for the help!
September 27, 2011 at 2:09 pm #373429
IHATeMyBossParticipant@fg, I am also preparing for audit, i have the exam in about 2 and half weeks. I still am not done with first chapter, for me personally, reading in Audit isn't helping. I am just listening to the lecture once and doing MCQS because i find the questions to be very specific and reading or listening to lectures isn't helping me. Not sure if i am doing the right thing, as of right now i am just doing mcqs.

AnonymousInactive@IHATeMyBoss- I have my audit exam on Oct 3rd , I think cranking up the MCQ's at this time may be a great idea, also once someone told me that when pressed for time pounding the MCQ's trump over anything else ..you learn so much more for them than just listening to the lectures ! Whats your plan for SIMs ?
