hopefulcpa06MemberFailed both AUD and REG this last window. I was going to take FAR next window, but I just canceled that hoping to retake AUD and REG in the next window while it is still fresh…and hope I never have to see those books again!!
You should take REG if you are well prepared and so close to being done…otherwise, take AUD and get it out of the way!! You shouldn't need more than 3-4 weeks to really review it well. So you could take both next window as well!!
Good Luck to us!!!

Thanks for your thoughts. I think you are right. I need to get down the concepts solid. I am going to get the Yaeger cram or course to get myself there. I am not crazy about Gary (Yaeger) but I have read so many positives about the content and comprehension. So, in the end, I just want to pass, so whatever it takes. I will probably buy a new testbank to integrate. I felt like I started to “know” the mcq's in Wiley. Becker was that way for me too.
Best of luck this window!

NolaCpa2BeMemberFor Audit, I would definitely focus on Controls. What the client should implement and what the auditor should do to test them. I don't think becker focuses nearly enough on them. I spent the day before the exam focusing on them and it really made a difference with both the MC and the Sims. Also take the little sample tests the AICPA provides on their site. There arent many questions, but they are free and it's great practice.

Waiting_MOMember@Peanut, I would review the theory in each section and do as many MCQ as possible in the last week .Becker Final Review helped me tremendously. To be on the safe side, I would take a few days off from work before each exam to have time to go through everything. When I did not feel comfortable with a subject, I read/listened to the entire lecture from Becker all over again and did all the questions I could find on that specific subject.
AUD - 88
FAR - 88
REG - 83
BEC - 84 expired. 8/31/11 - NTS#462September 26, 2011 at 7:12 am #373410

I still used Becker. The information in the book is good. I just dont think they spend enough time on it. It's like they are speeding through trying to give you mnemonics and don't actually teach you the process. So i sat there and really tried to grasp all the transaction cycles. Understand the actual cycle first, then their controls, then the test of controls procedures. I believe in A4, there's a table for each cycle. Those helped me. Knowing when to vouch, trace, or observe etc.
Here's a little guide i came up with from the material. It helped me correlate certain assertions to certain audit procedures.
(Based of FIVE CARROT CARS from Becker)
Foot/crossfoot: verify mathematical accuracy—valuation
Inquiry: request info from internal/external parties (especially litigation or pledged/obsolete inventory)
Vouching: looking for existence( whatβs recorded actually exists)
Examination/Inspection: usually existence assertion
Confirmation: from 3rd parties (Bank=valulation, Account Receivable=existence)
Analytical procedures: look for relationships (Planning &Final Review Stage)
Reperformance: test out the control yourself
Reconciliation: Existence and valuation (ex:book vs bank record)
Observation: look at process (usually completeness) ex: inventory
Tracing: looking for completeness(everything that exists was recorded)
Cut off reviews: look at year end transactions (classification, cutoff, and/or valuation)
Auditing related accounts simultaneously: liabilities&interest expense, PPE&repairs expense, Investments÷nd or interest income
Representation Letter: you need it except for compilations
Subsequent event review: valuation of assets&liabilities and adequate disclosures
Sometimes just connecting the words in your mind (like completeness and trace) help. especially when you are narrowing down the options. Hope it helps

rgibson3rdParticipantI am taking AUD in January. I last took AUD in 1998…and got a 57. I was in public accounting from 1996-2000. I passed BEC with Bisk and REG with Yaeger. I'm currently using Becker for FAR. I was considering using Rogers…based on my situation of being away from Auditing for over 10 years….any suggestions? As you can see, I'm not married to a review course. I plan to supplement with Jeff's ninja notes. Thanks.
BEC (11/10) 77 (Bisk)
FAR 7/2 - 63 11/5 - 80 (Yeager - Fail, Becker - Pass)
Reg (08/11) - 78 (Yeager)
Aud - 11/29 - 78(Yeager)September 26, 2011 at 6:37 pm #373414
PeanutParticipantCan anyone tell me how the Wiley MCQs were compared to the actual exam?? I've heard on here that the Becker questions were great for AUD, I completed all of those MCQs a couple of weeks ago and found them somewhat “easy.” I'm almost done going through the Wiley MCQs but man are they kicking my butt!!! What did you guys think about Wiley for AUD?!
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58September 26, 2011 at 6:38 pm #373415
PeanutParticipant@rgibson3rd, Becker is great, but if you have extra money to spend on these review courses, I would recommend purchasing an additional test bank for practice. I've use Wiley for REG, and now for AUD and I would definitely recommend it!
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58September 26, 2011 at 6:46 pm #373416
