@yankeea/c: U did good…a break from studies actually is more effective. I think it makes me more refreshed and ready to learn new stuff. All the very best for your exams. For sims, there is not much to do now but during the exam be very effective and efficient .

Think critically before you input the answer for both MCQ and sims. For MCQ I think if I am already sure of the answer I don't want to come back for review. Each minute is better saved for sims. So during the first round itself I look at the Q and the answer choices twice. I marked 3 in first, 3 in second and 6 in third testlet (another girl incessant typing distracted me. Think she was taking toefl or something). This way I had only 2 hrs for sims and I needed until the last minute trying to research and be sure of as many as possible. Another rule that I follow for AUD is after my first guess cum judgement, I don't change the answer until I have more than substantial reason. I should be able to find a hole in the chosen answer. For sims too when many answer choices linger between 2 options, I wanted to give it my best shot. I didn't have time to review all sim answers.

    Lots of luck!!

    @hav2pass,

great advice! I will do my best to follow. I am finding that my worst enemy is reading the question too fast and not seeing the “call of the question”, so I need to work on that critical review you mentioned. That I think will make the difference for me on passing.

thanks again for the input—try to enjoy the time away from studying, although we know that the waiting is difficult. Best of luck.

@Yankee – U r most welcome. During my review I found that to be my problem too:)

Oh it feels so good to be free, yet weird too. Every time I do something, I hear myself thinking after this I should study and then realize I don't have too…until sept atleast. Even after enjoying myself and doing everything for the family I couldn't stop myself pulling a 26 pg document from AICPA to read abt something…I know I must have gone nuts. But right now I am enjoying doing both. It just feels right…

hav2pass can you give some tips in ethics and IT….I am week in both…

For ethics, there are 2 types-principles (non-binding, basis for rules) and rules of conduct (binding). Among the rules, some are applicable only to accountants in public practice – Independence, Advertising and solicitation, confidentiality, contingent fees and commissions. Others apply to all.

After I got this basic concept, I just read all rules and made notes. Independence rules are most complicated. So I spent most time on them. Reading and doing MCQ may reinforce the rules. For me, writing notes helped. I repeated the MCQ from Gleim software.

For IT, you have understand the types of controls put in place – physical control that one can see like locked doors, access controls like password and authorization, operations controls and systems acquisition, replacement etc.

I feel like I am writing just the basic concepts that maynot be very helpful to what you need. If you are getting stuck in the complicated areas, just google and try to get comfortable with the concept.

In nutshell, writing notes and extra research might help.

Today is my first day approaching AUD. I am going to sound like a dork but I am kind of excited to start new materials 😛 Did anyone approach AUD differently from any of the other sections? From what I've been gathering (stalking the AUD forum on my break I gave myself after REG) is that flash cards work very well for this section. I've perfected how to “restudy” for an exam, however, I'd like to master how to originally study for an exam! I think I need to go through each chapter slower, possibly complete all MCQ's for a chapter before moving on. I used to watch a lecture, read the chapter, then do all MCQ's once, move on to the next chapter<< I think that method leaves holes. Any advice on this little beast?

    Peanut,

Wish I could pass on some proven advice. I totally understand the concept of how to totally “restudy”. I haven't been able (as of yet, REG will tell a story soon!) to pass an exam on the first shot.

That being said, I put forth the same study method as I did for BEC and FAR, last window on Audit but it didn't work. As far as I can tell, is that wording of the question is always an important part of the strategy, but from my experience it is paramount in passing this exam. I do better in quizzes and shorter progress tests because I am cognizant of reading the question slowly and paying attention, I start to lose that when I go through a larger number of questions. That will be my challenge on this exam. Luckily, I didn't feel like time was a factor at all, so I should be able to slow it down to get the right answer. Other than that, I would say repetition is key. To this end I would mix it up. For me, Audit was not the most exciting thing, so I tried to use different mediums for review. I used Becker notecards, my own notes, notes on mcq's, Ninja notes, and the notes in the Becker book. Even sometimes googling subjects I would find info that made more sense than what I had in front of me. I decided not to use a cram on this because Yaeger uses Gary Bomash (he sounds like the guy from Ferris Bueller–the math teacher… Bueller, Bueller, Ferris.) which would bore me to tears, and I didn't love the Becker ones so I saved a few bucks. If I did buy one I would have bought Roger. I heard he does a great job of keeping you engaged.

In terms of order, I read each chapter, took notes, moved to next chapter. Then did all mcq's in each chapter then moved to next. In between I kept rereading my notes and reading notecards.

Ok, that is it for me Peanut. Enjoy Audit. (ha) I have to start my last day of studying (8/30) and go into work for a bit. Best of luck on this one!

    Have a great day.

Yankee's exactly right about the wording of the question being so critical on this exam. I found that the correct answer may depend on one often minor word that can be easily missed if you read the question too quickly. Also, sometimes there's more than one answer that's correct, but you have to figure out which is the “best” one. I found doing lots and lots of MCQ and reading the explanation helped me with these questions. Memorizing the standard report and the additions/changes needed for the other types of reports is helpful. I had a copy taped to my mirror and memorized it by reciting while drying my hair or putting on make up. Good luck.

I took AUD yesterday and finished with 45 minutes to spare (and it could have been even earlier than that, but I really took my time on the sims). I needed pretty much the full time allotted for all of my other sections. Did anyone else finish AUD early?

    BEC - 85 FAR - 83
    REG - 84 AUD - 86
    DONE. First time's a charm.
