stokey45Participant@hawkmante — have you tried anything else besides Becker to study A-4? I feel many of the management assertions could apply to the testing of controls. I feel as if it could be subjective but I need to find the answer that they are looking for. I dont know maybe I need to do just like you say and take more time to study each one individually. Right now I am frustrated. =/

hawkmanteMember65.74.72.. man your all over it.. your score report put you stronger in MCQ and weaker in sims.. thats what mine says. I used becker, wiley, ninja, becker flash cards ( I hope this is the key) AUD final review, my own flash cards, CPA review for free… Evidence is my lowest avg grade in wiley.. but its 78. So in my mind its passing.. and if a can reproduce a 75 I would be thrilled.

stokey45ParticipantI believe evidence is my weakest area as well. Thanks for your words of encouragement.
Good luck to you. With all of the materials you have studied you should be fine. Watch you end up with a 91 or something like that this time!! From my mouth to God's ears, right?

AnonymousInactiveEvidence and Internal Control own me 🙁
In which of the following should an auditor's report refer to the lack of consistency when there is a change in accounting principle that is significant?
A. The scope paragraph
B. The opinion paragraph
C. An explanatory paragraph following the opinion
D. An explanatory paragraph before the opinion paragraph
Correct answer: C
Would we chose D if the question stated that the auditor didn't agree with the switch in principle?

hawkmanteMember@cashmoney..
man im with you. I read the question without looking at the choices. In my mind it should be before the opinion paragraph.
if the question would have stated that the auditor was either issuing a unqualified opinion, or that the auditor agreed/justified the lack of consistency, or that the lack of consistency was adequately disclosed… only then would I say that explanatory paragraph should be after the opinion. it seems like you did not get enough info to correctly answer the question. This crap is why I HATE auditing.. Its not cut and dry.. always an exception.. if I wanted exception to the rule i would have studied english.
Id like to see someone's rebuttal in agreement with this MCQ.
Sorry i was ZERO help

AnonymousInactive@stockey45: Wiley test bank 2012 has around 269 mcq on evidence and 190 on test of controls . Once you do those questions after reading becker material . you will feel much confident. also you will remember some tricks and techniques after practicing.
@hawkmante : you are right! i I should revise becker notes rather then memorizing becker MCQ lol .@cash money – yes if there is unjustified departure form GAAP , the report is qualified and an explanatory para should be added before opinion para.
ok i am back to govt auditing (OH LORD!)

jking12Member@CashMoney
I think it would be C if the questions states nothing about materiality. If the switch in principle was to something Non-GAAP and it was material, it would be Answer D.

momto5Member@hawkmante – thanks for the explanation of the risk of incorrect acceptance. I think I keep getting risk confused – the difference between having a high risk and setting your risk tolerance high.
I agree with everyone that A-4 was bad. A-5 wasn't, I didn't think, but I will now be starting A-6, which sounds terrible! Hope to be able to put in a solid weekend of studying!

stokey45ParticipantGuys — any help you can give me to understand this question I would appreciate it. I consistently get these type of questions wrong and cannot grasp why.
In determining the effectiveness of an entity's internal controls relating to the occurrence assertion for payroll transactions, an auditor most likely would inquire about and:
a. Observe the segregation of duties concerning personnel responsibilities and payroll disbursement.
b. Inspect evidence of accounting for pre-numbered payroll checks.
c. Recompute the payroll deductions for employee fringe benefits.
c. Verify the preparation of the monthly payroll account bank reconciliation.
I answered B because my thought is Existence/Occurrence is from the FS to the supporting documents.
The correct answer is A with the explanation that the occurrence assertion as it relates to payroll transactions would correspond to an audit objective to determine that payroll transactions actually occurred (that all payroll checks were issued to valid employees for hours actually worked)
Also, B is wrong with the explanation that Inspecting evidence related to pre-numbering of payroll checks would relate to the completeness assertion.
Can I just say”HELP”!!

PeanutParticipant@stokey45, there is a “kind of” rule of thumb for MCQ questions regarding internal control. This comes from Becker. If they're asking you about the effectiveness on internal control, there are generally 4 ways to test internal control; observation, inquiry, inspection, reperformance. For this question, that would limit it to A or B. If you read the answers carefully, segregation of duties is part of the internal control environment. You probably chose B because of the words “pre-numbered” in the choice, this is more related to a control procedure/control activity. This isn't going to help you learn about the effectiveness of internal control. Segregation of duties, observing this, will help you determine if internal control is effective. Am I making any sense what so ever?

hawkmanteMember@stokey..
Peanuts right on..IRON (inquiry, reperformance, observation, iNspection).. to further peanuts point, when variable testing for internal controls or looking for errors in internal control / effectiveness of internal control the auditor would be more concerned with the effectivness of the control in place rather than that some sort of control exist. Observing = solid proof that the control is in place and is working. Inspecting evidence of pre number documents would just show that some sort of control is in place.. but not that the controls is operating effectively.

momto5MemberPlus inspecting pre-numbered documents to see if they were all accounted for is testing for completeness (that they all made their way to the F/S balances) not occurrence, right?

stokey45ParticipantThanks guys — that makes sense.
I am getting very discouraged about Becker AUD 4 and have started to lose confidence. Although, I am still scoring between a 78-80 on the MCQs. It is just that when I get a question wrong in the other chapters I can clearly see what I did wrong. In this chapter some of the assertions seem subjective to me. It is not a black and white issue. And I am not referring the question I recently asked; that question is more clear and I just did not understand what the question was asking me.
Thank you again for helping me to realize how I looking at the question wrong.
