When in doubt- look it up in the authoritative literature. If you are using Wiley you will find it at the end of the book.
AU §317Illegal Acts by Clients
Effect on the Auditor’s Report
.18 If the auditor concludes that an illegal act has a material effect on
the financial statements, and the act has not been properly accounted for or
disclosed, the auditor should express a qualified opinion or an adverse opinion
on the financial statements taken as a whole, depending on the materiality of
the effect on the financial statements.
.19 If the auditor is precluded by the client from obtaining sufficient appropriate
audit evidence to evaluate whether an illegal act that could be material
to the financial statements has, or is likely to have, occurred, the auditor generally
should disclaim an opinion on the financial statements. [Revised, March
2006, to reflect conforming changes necessary due to the issuance of Statement
on Auditing Standards No. 105.]
.20 If the client refuses to accept the auditor's report as modified for the
circumstances described in paragraphs .18 and .19, the auditor should withdraw
from the engagement and indicate the reasons for withdrawal in writing
to those charged with governance. [Revised, April 2007, to reflect conforming
changes necessary due to the issuance of Statement on Auditing Standards
No. 114.]
.21 The auditor may be unable to determine whether an act is illegal
because of limitations imposed by the circumstances rather than by the client
or because of uncertainty associated with interpretation of applicable laws or
regulations or surrounding facts. In these circumstances, the auditor should
consider the effect on his report.2
So Nam- what do you think now?

AnonymousInactiveI did not spend much time studying ratios. I memorized the ones in ninja notes, but that's about it. Luckily, I didn't get any questions about ratios, but someone have so…….it's all about luck 🙂

@ Lisa – Authoritative Literature does helps . I wish i would have used it in my last Audit exam sims , I wasn't aware of it in my last exams. SIGH!! 🙁
as per Wiley test bank the correct answer is A. Disclaimer of an opinon (This answer is correct because in such situations in which the auditor knows of the illegal act, a simple disclaimer will not suffice, since the lack of disclosure represents a departure from GAAP. This departure from GAAP will result in a qualified opinion or an adverse opinion.
Is someone taking Audit exam on 07/05/12? What's your study approach?
Good luck guys!

stokey45ParticipantFollowing the study planner.
I get up at 4:30, coffee until 5:00, and then study until 6:00. Then I stop and get ready for work.
I go to the library for 2.5 hours after work on Tues and Wed. Thursday night I take off. For the summer I do not have to work on Fridays and Mondays so I study from 4-5 hours a day on my long weekends.
I just started this last week and so far so good. I have listened to all of the Becker AUD Videos and wrote all of the Ninja Notes. Now it is time for re-reading the notes and MCQs!
Here we GO!

Great analysis! That was a tricky question but a good one. I am using the Wiley text and they constantly tell the reader to look at the authoritative literature. I looked your question up as research practice. It all helps! As soon as I get through the text I am hitting the Wiley test bank, too. It is excellent practice.

stokey45ParticipantMy third time going thru my Auditing book. My scores have been 65/74/72. I am fairly new to this website and this is my first time using the NINJA study planner and notes. I am scoring 85-92 on my MCQs and am pretty happy with the results so far. I hope it continues to go well, although I am just on Becker chapter one which is not one of the harder chapters.
I am making notes on the questions I am getting wrong to review. If anyone has other suggestions I am all ears. I sooooo want to pass AUD this time.

momof4MemberIs it just me or is the detail in the governmental auditing section of Becker too much to absorb? I just don't know how I can ever remember so much detail in that area. They cover it very quickly so I don't think that you would expect to get too many questions in that area but with my luck I'll get a highly detailed question in a SIM. I'm less than two weeks out. Time to practice, practice, practice.
Good luck everyone.

stokey45Participant@momo — you are correct. I have taken the AUD section 3x (65/74/72) and have only received a question or two on Governmental Auditing. Like you say, we never can tell how many questions we could get on our next attempt or that we may get a detailed SIM which requires more in depth knowledge.
I was looking in the front on my Becker Review Book were it tells us the percentage of multiple choice questions in each content area hoping to find more information about governmental auditing. At first glance, I do not see where it tells us. You might want to look at your review material and see if you can get more info and if you can post it I am curious to know.
Wishing the best of luck to you. ~Lisa

Lisa_JaneParticipantThanks for the good luck wishes! I think you are going to pass the Auditing exam this time- your score has improved each time and all you need is 75. When you are in the exam, don't worry if it seems like it isn't going well- just stay focused and be confident. That's what I'm going to do! Best of luck to you, too!

hawkmanteMemberI have been through AUD many times as you can see below. Right now I am getting 94-96 on all of my wiley test bank and becker progress test. I am going through alot of flash cards and reading NINJA and my own personal notes. Anybody in the same situation as I am or went through this same slump? Please feel free to lend me advice on how to surmount this AUD beast. My score report said stronger in MC and weaker in sims. I know thats my deficiency but I am not sure how to overcome that with my studies. Please send your two cents. Thanks.

AnonymousInactiveHawkmante,
I am sure you will pass it this time around. Try as much as possible in attempting as many MCQ and SIMS as you can. In my own case, I used Becker 2011 edition and I also practiced free questions and SIMS from “cpareviewforfree.com”. You will have to buy the SIMS from the website for $10. I combined it with Becker and was able to pass the exam even though, I did not have enough time to do the research question on the exam. I also noticed I a lot of questions came out on ‘compilation and review' when I sat for the exam last May. Just try as much and possible to practice as many questions as you can and you will pass in Jesus name, amen. Good luck.

PeanutParticipant@hawkmante, I am in the exact same boat. This is going to be my 4th attempt at AUD. Like you I was stronger on the MCQs and weaker on SIMs. I did buy the CPAreviewforfree SIMs and I do like them. Like you, I'm scoring high 90's on all Becker and Wiley MCQs.. which doesn't surprise me since we both scored stronger on MCQs. I sit on July 3rd. I also read the book fully 2 times, and wrote/rewrote all my notes! What did you do differently this time?
AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58June 26, 2012 at 12:58 pm #374421
AnonymousInactiveTaking AUD on 07/07/12. I'm using Becker and I finished all the lectures and most fo the MCQ. I'm a little nervous about the simulations. Any one knows if you get partial credit on simulations?
