    Hey everyone.

So I just received the good news that I got a 74 on AUD….although my coworkers seem to think I should fight it and try to get a 75 I’m thinking I need to just suck it up pay in and get that 75. Needless to say, I need to brush up on things a bit. I know there are a lot of people who have received 74 and then went back in and got a higher score. So I’m wondering, for those of you who are in that boat, what was your approach to studying to go back in.

I'm not in the “74 boat,” but from what I've heard, that's like 1 or 2 MCQ away from passing. With that said, you are damn close to knowing the material…just a wrong guess or two away.

I would recommend skimming the book/notes you have to refresh your memory, and then attack as many MCQ as possible. Take your time when reviewing the right answer and make sure to read the explanations for wrong answers AND right answers.

    Wisconsin Candidate,

I know how you feel. I scored a 74 on the REG section and I thought about fighting it too. Then I read what the cost is to rescore and the past history on changes to the score and opted to retake that section. CPAJD is right on about refreshing your memory and doing as many MC questions as possible prior to retaking the section. Best of luck to you.

    AUD 58, 59, 61, 70 (8/31/11)
    BEC 51, 58, 59, 57 (7/11/11)
    FAR 51, 63, 64, 65, 61 (10/31/11)
    REG 55, 63, 74, 68, 65, 71, 69 (4/21/11-waiting)

Well I think your study approach depends on if you know why you received a 74. For instance, I received a 74 on BEC, and I knew why. I basically skipped over an entire chapter. Anyways, I bought yaeger cram, watched it. Watched the home study for the chapter I skipped over, and then memorized the necessary financial formulas, and did a whole bunch of MC questions. All of this in about 2 weeks. I hadn't really lost much since I had taken the exam, so it was mostly a lot of review and solidifying of my understandings.

I received a 73 and 74 on BEC and a 74 on FAR. I would just do more MCQs and make sure you understand them. MCQs are the most important part, go through the lectures again, and skim the chapters. Make sure you get 90% on all questions including the final exams. Put in 100-120 hours for AUD in 5 weeks and you will probably score in the 80s or 90s. Just put in the extra effort and get it over with. 🙂

    AUD - 89 REG - 81 BEC - 73, 74, 84 FAR - 56, 74, 83. . .Done 🙂

    I'm a CPA! 🙂

I've never gotten 74 but I bet it must hurt a lot. I've gotten 73 twice and I KNOW it hurt much more than the 70 I got. Like someone said before think of the reason you got it. The first 73 I got in December in BEC I KNEW I went over in time the first testlet and I panicked and guessed on the last few questions just to catch up and move on. I KNEW if I just refreshed the material I can do better. So I took a week and went over the book and the mcq one more time and went to take the exam on January 2, the first day of the open window. I passed without too much of additional studying.

This time with one 73 and one 70 in FAR I KNoW I had to do much more studying because I know the material but it needs to become “second nature” to me.

Diagnose yourself and you'll do well next time with little additional time and effort.
