Just wondering if anyone has used the CFE prep course to prepare for the exam? My company is paying for it so I purchased it today and I am not really sure how much time it’s going to take so I was trying to get an idea. I wont be studying full time (maybe a couple hours during the work week & 4-5 hours on the weekend). I also am not taking the exam until January because I want to include it as one of my annual goals at work 🙂

Any thoughts on how long this will take and also tips in general for the exam? My guess is that its nothing in comparison to the CPA Exam, especially since you have thirty days to complete all 4 sections (at HOME!) but just wanting to get a general idea.

I took the CFE last year and it took me about 6-8 weeks studying part-time most of the time. There's this huge manual (2k+ pages) that they give you (PDF format). Don't bother going through that so thoroughly. Like many people suggested, just go through the multiple choice questions and mark the ones you don't know. They do explain the correct answers for you but if you need more info, the manual is there. The first thing the prep course will require you to do is an assessment test. They will rank the sections and let you know which ones you are weak/strong in. Study your strongest section first, descending to your weakest topic. That way, you have the weakest subject still fresh in your mind when taking the exam.

One of my colleagues went to the training session for the CFE It included a consolidated manual. A lot easier to muster through than the 2k+ page manual. He didn't realize that at the end of the 5 day session that he would have the opportunity to take the exams there, in person. So he cram the entire course/manual in that span. Sat for the exams, took one twice because he failed one but ultimately passed all the exams. He basically stayed in his hotel room the entire time, soaking in the materials.

Moral to the story, it can take as little as 5 days or 8 weeks. lol hope this helps.
