I’ve been a stay at home mom for the past ten years. I’m going to be taking a graduate level accounting class this fall at the University of Cincinnati with the hopes of eventually attaining an MS in Accounting and trying for the CPA again. (I sat for Aud several years ago, failed and haven’t been back since). I’m really worried about the difficulty level of the graduate level classes. Has anyone here taken grad level classes? How do they compare with undergrad accounting classes? I only had a 2.8 GPA so I’m scared. Is it mostly writing papers? Papers and tests?

I haven't taken any graduate level classes, but I wanted to make sure you knew you don't need a masters to sit for the CPA exam. You just need 150 credit hours, with the proper number in each category.
Every state is different, but please check the rules before you drop $30k+ on a masters that you might not need.

I was about a 3.0 in undergrad and was able to conquer the CPA exam after 15 years out of school.
It's very possible.

Depends on the program and school..some program is nothing but an extension of undergrad with paper and test. Others has papers and stuff.

I actually did my MS Acct at the University of Cincinnati in 2016. I found it easier than undergrad. I ended undergrad with just a 2.5 at Miami and then got a 3.0 at UC. Not sure if it was difference in schools or what but it wasn't as hard. There was a good balance of papers/presentations and tests from what I remember. Probably a few more of the papers/presentations than undergrad.

Graduating with MAcc on June 11, 2021

Looking to take in order using Becker:

FAR, REG, AUD, BEC

I'm about to graduate with my MAcc at my university and it is a lot simpler than my bachelors. I graduated with a 3.56 with my bachelors and am about to graduate with a 3.88 for my MAcc. Through my experience you will have a lot more group projects and papers, typically a class has a midterm exam and a final group project.

Thank you all for your encouraging posts! I really struggle with self-confidence and always questioning whether I am really smart enough to do a MAcc and the CPA. It’s very encouraging to hear from others that the MAcc is quite manageable. I found undergrad very challenging but it sounds like a masters is certainly no more difficult, and quite possibly less so even.
