    Hi,

I am getting ready to graduate with my BA in Accounting from Post University (online) gpa 3.3+ . I am active duty military working part time as an accounting assistant at a place called Mclaughlin’s RV and Marine so I am gaining some accounting experience. My goal is to complete my MAcc by 2017 and pass the exams by 2018 then move from my current position to public accounting. My question is pertaining to the MAcc program. I have been reading a lot about AACSB accreditation for graduate programs and how you “won’t get a job” if your degree lacks this accreditation.

Well I don’t have the time to attend traditional brick and mortar schools and I find paying and studying for the GRE/GMAT a complete waste of money and will do nothing for me on the CPA exam nor contribute to my graduate degree. Right now, I am looking at Ryder Univ. online MAcc, Creighton Univ online MAcc, Georgia Southern online MAcc, and Post Univ. online MAcc. The problem is that the first three schools are all AACSB accredited and I would not mind going there but require the GMAT. There is a waiver that can be granted only if you meet the grades, gpa, and experience req’s which I do not know if I will satisfy. After I finish my BA, I will only have 19 months of education benefits remaining on my GI bill which is paying for everything keeping me away from student loans thank God. But Post Univ MAcc is not AACSB accredited. Does it even matter if my graduate degree is AACSB accredited when the only reason I am pursuing it is to meet the 150 cr.?

One day I will face that exam.

Try SNHU. I did my Macc online and I seem to remember they did something for military, not sure if it was just navy (wouldnt make a lot of sense but for some reason Navy sticks out in my memory) or all branches.

    Thank you for serving!

I think accreditation matters, even for your CPA. State boards don't always accept courses if they aren't from an accredited university. You can probably get into those schools without a great GMAT score. I think you could probably just take the practice test online and then go and take it. I know I studied a lot, but my starting place was good enough for a lot of schools, so it kind of depends if you are a good test taker. If you do plan to do that, remember the most important thing in the GMAT is timing. You get a severe penalty if you run out of time. Also remember, people who score around a 600 miss approximately the same number of problems as people who score around a 700, they just miss easier ones. I would also like to mention that I did study for the GMAT and I think that helped me prepare to study for the CPA. Good luck
