    Hello all,

I am currently studying for the CPA exam and I had to put my study on hold to study for the LSAT. I am planning on attending Law School in the Fall to get a JD/Macc. I am unsure how being a law student will affect my study in becoming a CPA. If anyone was in the same situation, please I will love to hear about your experience and how you were able to manage both your law classes and studying for the CPA exam.

    Thank you

Go for it and you'll be golden!!!

I wish I went to law school instead of doing MST. I'm in NYC. All of my professors went to law school and are CPA's as well.

Here you can do both but you have to be careful to keep separate “hats” or you lose your attorney client privilege. Sounds like it would be tough to do both at once but should be worth it if you can.

I am a licensed attorney and am 1 section away from being a licensed CPA. I have never heard that you cannot be both. There are rules you have to follow as far as using both titles when practicing but that doesn't preclude you from having both licenses.

As far as law school goes, it's an expensive, exhausting, stressful experience. Then you have to take another exam that's just as bad as this one in a different way. If you want to commit a few years to that, then go for it. It is a rewarding accomplishment but certainly not for everyone. You could probably take the CPA exam during law school but not if you plan on having any life outside of that. Literally, don't plan on work, family, or friends.

I am also one class away from a LLM in taxation. I have been studying for the CPA exam while finishing my LLM and it's definitely challenging. I wouldn't do it again if I had the choice.

I passed the last section of the CPA exam the day before law school started. I wasn't exactly in your boat, but the first year of law school is REALLY hard. The whole thing is pretty hard, but the first semester is HELL getting adjusted to the teaching style and demands.

If you are determined and have a section expiring or something, I believe it could be done. You won't be able to have friends or a job while doing it, but you could probably do it.

    I wouldn't recommend it though…
