CPE credit prior to issuance of CA license number.

I can’t seem to find this information anywhere.

I am currently waiting for the CBA to issue my license number. A few weeks ago, I emailed the initial license fee of $120. My check has not been checked so who knows how long it’ll be before I can actually call myself a CPA.

Anywho, I attended a 3 day conference in July which provided 24 hours worth of CPE. My question is, will I be able to use these CPE hours for my first license renewal which will be in Nov 2018 since the July CPE would have been taken in the two years prior to license renewal?

My guess is that I can’t count those hours because I wasn’t actually a CPA yet. Anyone know for sure?

I am not positive for CA, but would imagine the same rules apply. For AZ, no CPE credit taken prior to the licence issue date is credited toward your CPE requirement.

Same for Georgia. No CPE prior to license issue date. Sorry, not helpful for California, but maybe that is the general standard everywhere. Congrats on passing this beast of a test, though!

Thank you both for your answer. That is pretty much what I figured but decided it didn't hurt to ask.

Unfortunately, that conference won't count unless you've been licensed before you went to that conference. You can call them and see if they'll make an exception. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't count.

    Congrats on passing the exams!

Silly question, but are you sure you need CPE for the first renewal? Some state boards don't require it for the first renewal, only the subsequent ones. A buddy once plowed through about 120 hours for his first renewal before finding out he didn't have to, he's licensed in IL though.

Hasy: Thanks. Being in California, I'm pretty sure it will be useless to contact them regarding this. I guess I will just have to do additional CPE. My employer does pay for it but it would be nice if those 24hrs could be used.

Yes I am sure. Your friend and all IL CPAs are lucky. A coworker of mine will be renewing his license for the first time next month and CPE is required. It is prorated since he will not have been licensed for a full two years next month.
