    I got my lincese last year and switched to a mid-size regional accounting firm. Now I am already used to the work, I am thinking about taking the CMA exam.
    Any suggestions? Anyone who is taking it?

    Don't think. Just do. You must be one with the force, Vanessa-san.

    @Vannessachy

    Is it going to benefit you in the long run? Do you plan on sticking with public? I would look at any designations that will further your career or potential careers. I moved from public to private this passed January. The CMA is on my radar now, but I didn't think it would suite me prior to my switch in work. I was looking more at personal finance or valuation certs that would aid clients. It is personal preference, but I wouldn't invest time in anything unless you know it'll get you paid in the long-run.

    Do any of your of the managers or partners in your past firms have it?

    @Vanessachy, I've toyed with the idea, but I might just go to grad school after I pass FAR, IDK… I do have a hock book from a few years ago. You are basically re-taking FAR and BEC minus the sims and with essays. The grading also might be more lenient, but the test is more expensive. Definitely try to get your employer to pay for it. I might have dropped the costs in the official CMA thread a while back.

    Edit: Found the post I was referring to

    Yeah the CMA isn't cheap. But then again neither is the CPA. If you like managerial/cost accounting, strategy, and financial analysis, studying for the CMA might actually be fun for you as it was for me.

    It's particularly valuable and recognized in the manufacturing world. It's also valuable across all industries when you get higher up the chain and start providing profit analysis, plans, and forecasts to departments, the CFO, VP's, or other top folks.

    They'll soon rely on your analysis to make very important decisions.

    @FAtoCPA, honestly, most of the partners and managers have CFE, but I am not interested. I am planning on move to the private after some experience.@

    @almond, it is really expensive and I don't think the firm will pay for it since it wouldn't help public accounting.

    @mtaylo24
    , I have a msa and I thought about getting a MBA but I don't feel it would help me that much. CMA just seems the right one to get for now. Only two parts and won't take too much of my time.
