What actually constitutes as CMA work experience. It’s a little vague to me and want to make sure if I do take it I’ll qualify the work experience part. I’m looking into working in auditing for the Big 4 and possibly an auditor trainee position for NYS. Thanks in advance!

Dsavage: general accounting or finance experience will get you there; they are purposely vague because the range of work experience accepted is pretty wide. A bigger question is….If you want to be an auditor why are you considering the CMA?

What other certification would you suggest?

If you have your CPA (and degree), then you should maybe focus on just starting work. Once you have work experience you'll get a better understanding where you are going in life and what additional licenses you would want based on that. Unfortunately, without real world experience, these certification don't mean much. Think about it, would you rather hire someone with a CPA/CMA/MBA and zero work experience, or someone who has none of those, but a sold 3-4 years or public accounting or industry experience?

I agree 100% lude (why does your name make me flash back to Wolf of Wall Street?).

I think the landscape has gotten so competitive that younger people without experience are looking for any edge they can get; and I don't blame them.

However, there is no substitute for experience. You will be better served having a little patience, get a job in the field and kick ASS at it. Usually from there a path will form and you get the certification that will help reinforce that.

I think the CMA is great, just more for cost accounting, corporate accounting and maybe corporate finance. If you want to go that way now or in the future, it makes semse. If not or you aren't sure, see step 1 above..

^^^^ Not sure why the name reminds you of that lol. It's short for Prelude. My first car was a Honda Prelude and it was what got me into the car scene/lifestyle so the username has stuck since highschool!

haha lude ahhhh that makes sense! Wish I knew something about cars…people keep asking me why I don't do any mods to my 2008 Hemi Charger…I keep telling them that it's not worth a new tranny and 8 miles a gallon to go 500 hp….at least not yet 🙂
