How many tax returns are you expected to do a day at a small to mid size firm. I will exclude business returns except simple schedule C forms. So a return with a W2, mortgage, college expenses, retirement income, and little extra income from selling widgets on the weekend. What is a reasonable number to do a day for this kind of return.

All the sleepless nights were worth it.

Giving up is not an option.

This is i difficult question to answer, but here goes my $0.02. You can complete 1-12 a day. Is this your first tax return? How many w-2s ( I have a client with about 12) does the client have, 1099-Rs, detail in the sch C? All of this should be considered.

Given that you don't have any idea about this matter, I will assume you haven't done tax returns yet, I think that 2 hrs is reasonable for one tax return with minimal information to input.

Even when winning is illogical, losing still far form optional.

Tax returns of this nature are not going to make it into a cpa firm. Are u talking about hr block?

U in a small town somewhere with no big fish? These clients are also the noisiest and have incomplete or poor record keeping. Not a good combo for billing. Ur firm needs to be more selective. Are u also giving tax refund advances on visa cards?

It really depends. The part that drags on is not having all info needed from the client. If I have everything I need from the client (dream scenario, this never happens), I could probably knock out 8-10 easy/medium returns. It's my second year at a public firm.

My firm doesn't expect a certain amount to be done/day. It's more about getting it done on a budget.

@c9p9a9 – These types of returns are extremely common at CPA firms. And they aren't unprofitable. You can finish them in 20 minutes and bill the firm minimum. Sorry that your firm is missing out on easy money!
