this upcoming Wednesday will mark two weeks since my interview with a firm for a summer internship. It’s probably bad news they haven’t contacted me yet but is it professional to e-mail HR and inquire about the status of my application? If not two weeks, how long or should I just not contact them at all? All input is greatly appreciated.

You should Always follow up with them. 2 weeks is a bit long. Did you send them a Thank you reply, or anything at all.

But anyway, I just remembered .. that during the time I was in college and trying out for big4 internships..Even though I got rejected, they still sent an email out telling me that. So, you might still have a chance. =)
