    Here’s the situation.

So I found out I passed my last section and I am done with the exams. I have been working in a tiny online tax preparation company since Jan this year and I am customer service representative/tax processor for individual tax returns. My boss told me before he would give me a raise and reimburse me the materials after I pass the exams but now he only said congulations. Also, my boss told me that he would let me work with him which will be tax programming/anslysis after my exams but now he didn’t mention anything. Colleagues said I should celebrate so I decided to treat everyone dinner next week.

My manager is only an associate graduate and still pursuing his bachelor degree. He became not happy and jealous after knowing that I passed all the exams. The job is too easy and I cannot utilize my skills fully and grow. I have been thinking about getting a new job for a long time, but for some reason it’s difficult for me because I need work visa/sponsorship and I am only a recent graduate which means I don’t have 3-5 solid work experiences.

I am a master of science in taxation graduate and I really want to join a company where I can establish my long-term carrer goal and make contributions. I am really very confused at this time because I think I already did what I should do including passing the exams in a short period of time and working hard.

I really need suggestions regarding what I should do now. Any comments will be highly appreciated.

Hi my OPT expired and I am currently on CPT (registered at a school in NYC and needs to pay tuition!)…I hope to get H1B visa next year…I looked at the big four accounting firms websites and it looks like they don't have entry level positions. Entry level positions are hired directly from campus since I already graduated it's hard for me to get my foot in. The mid-sized CPA firms don't sponsor H1B visa…the partners in smaller firms don't know much about the work visa and they might be willing to assist me to apply since I can retain a lawyer. I really want to join a big firm but it is hard…I am a very junior level person and I am currently just doing simple work so the work experience doesn't really count. What job did you get?

@luyiqing: H1B is going to be a little trickier. You need to reach out to those large firms and tell them your situation.

It's going to take some extra work, but you need to contact the companies and tell them that you want to work for them, but are unsure with who to contact about recruiting. You're going to have to make the extra effort and make contacts.

Getting a company that will sponsor you is difficult, but its not impossible. You have to do the leg work and seek out the companies that will sponsor.

So I have a big concern regarding my current job…because the returns are considered self-prepared….we don't actually prepare the returns….when the potential employer asked what are you doing in your current job, it looks like that would be the disadvantage for me because all I really do is just importing returns into the tax software and fixing diagnostic errors as well as provide customer service…

    what should I do???

Ok so I talked with my current boss today and he would give me a raise to $18 an hour. He also said I would assist the programmer do some work. But my concern is that it's still not traditional accounting/tax work…how can that benefit my career? Thanks!
