Thank God I passed the cpa exam, but I still need a cpa firm job. I’m in grad school studying taxation right now, working part time at the accounting dept. in a small S corp; and just passed my last part (audit) of the test this last window. It’s really the time to find an entry level cpa job so I can get my license and have a career! But with all the job openings I looked, almost all of them required 3-5 years of cpa firm experience. How do firms expect canidates to have years of experience if they don’t even give us a chance to get any experience?? Anyone have any comments or suggestions on this issue?

Does your school have a Career Management department? You mentioned you were in graduate school so I would assume you have some sort connection to recruiters in the close proximity. That's probably the best way to get direct entry into a CPA firm as they tend to recruit heavily from colleges. 3-5 years of experience sounds closer to a Senior Associate position rather than a regular Associate. It might also depend what kind of various positions they have open. For example I wanted to work in International Corporate tax, but they didn't have that in the local offices where I went to school; instead they had Federal. So I traveled across the country to find an opening in International Corporate, but at that office they didn't have any positions for Federal.

I am looking for a job in audit/tax in DC metro area. I have over two years of experience in private accounting and solid excel skills. If someone is looking for a hard working, self starter person with positive attitude, please give me a chance and I will forward you my resume.

    Thanks
