CPApracticerParticipant@neika822 wow that sounds awesome. I would definitely take slightly less pay if it means working less hours. I will be working at a big four, nyc, 57k right out of college. I am expecting 9-6 during regular season and 9-11 during busy season including weekends. its not alot of money per hour. I want to see my other options after a few years of big four for something more balanced. are you a professor? what exactly do you do?

wizards8507Participant9:15ish – 5:00, except for two nights a month and one week a quarter (Fortune 100 company).
Do people really have scheduled “one hour lunches”? I usually work through lunch but could take as long as I want, as long as I'm not missing all afternoon.
Started out of school at $57K.
@CPApracticer, $57K seems low for a Big 4 job in NYC. Maybe Boise, Idaho but I think your offer was low for NYC.

KenadaMemberI work for a private company and my hours are 6.30 am to 4.30pm. Long hours and very tired. I don't think a 9-5 job exists for me.

nbad311MemberWorking in the financial control dept of a large insurance company: 8-5 with an hour for lunch. Occasional 6pm days Jan-March for year end and audit-related stuff. Never worked a weekend, been here since December 2011 in a senior staff type role.
Came from a public mid-sized accounting firm where there were impromptu assignments which meant OT without notice – made it so hard to study for the exam / high stress!
My job now compared to my job in public = CHRISTMAS EVERY DAMN DAY

MrsBingMemberDon't know about public, but in private 9-5 (or 8-5 with an hour lunch) does exist. I work 8:30-5:30 with an hour lunch, but I could work through lunch and leave at 4:30 if I wanted. My week is consistently 40 hours. The only time I may work a little more is once or twice in a month during close and normally not more than a few hours.

AnonymousInactive@mena je twa Watch their website's career listings – just regularly check the colleges in your area. The colleges I've dealt with seem to just list them on their website and never get beyond that! (Not saying all are that way, but the ones that I've dealt with have been.)

StephAVMemberI work 9-5 with an hour lunch break, it is a 35 hour work week. I also get 4 weeks vacation , 2 weeks sick, and 15 holidays. I work for a NPO , professional trade association. That said I'm now 8 years out of college, 2.5 in public, 5 at this NPO and I'm making $53,000. Not so happy about that… I guess I could add that I also have amazing health benefits that I pay nothing for my whole family…

MrsBingMember@Steph, your benefits and hours are awesome. I would rather make less as long as I think my pay fits my work than have to work 60+ hours a week and make the big money.

StephAVMemberThanks Mrs.Bing! I forgot to add that their retirement contributions are pretty generous too. They contribute 9% (used to be 10%). I know when I started here I promised myself I wouldn't be like a lot of the other employees and be ungrateful for what I had… It has started happening though. Now, we just got a new controller and he is the one encouraging me to pass the CPA exam and the co is paying for it, so that is like a nice little bonus. I just know once I do pass I am going to want more $$ even more than I do now.

Jade CPA-to-beMemberFrom early Feb to Mid April, I work about 10 hours from Monday to Friday and 8 hours on Saturday. Rest of the year, I only work regular 40 hours a week and the work is not intense. I have been in my job for 1.5 years, no benefit, no vacation, and no health insurance. nothing paid for my CPA exam preparation. URRRR….I just send in my license application and will definitely look for new job. At least, I want to work for a company that pays health insurance and sick and vacation pay. Anyone agrees?
