    …in public, private, government, or anywhere for an accounting-related job?

    There’s more to life than just work, right?

    @scoop

    haha…I checked around my office and no one's on this website, so probably not 🙂

    @RalphDoggy

    Same here…I get paid hourly…that's a plus because I know when I'm working overtime I'm getting paid for it…

    So it's not SO uncommon…:)

    you can always find 9-6 or 8-5 (including lunch time) jobs in government sector. In fact, it has to be 40, not more or less if ur working for uncle Sam. If you have lots work to do and end up working over 40 hours that week, you will earn “comp time” for the hours over 40 that week. Comp time will be added to your annual leave which is usually expired in a year.

    I work in the banking industry and I normally work 40 hours per week. Around 5 months out of the year, I work 45-50 hours due to deadlines… but it's really not so bad. After working in public accounting, 50 hours is a dream.

    Yes, my new job is 9-5 with an hour lunch, no weekends. I once worked as a cost accountant for an issuer and the hours were crazy…8 am to 7 pm was normal, and two saturdays a month…

    Depends on the gov't sector job. Those on unionized, permanent title, state civil service exam positions work about 35-40. Those in managerial positions – not necessarily related to title, but to the fact that it is a non-unionized position – can work varying hours.

    Couldn't pass again!

    I work for a private venture capital firm – 40 hours a week for staff accountants. Many people I work with came from public accounting and this is heaven compared to their former positions.

    Government & University accounting is the place for 40 work week! Only at year end (for me in August) is there ever any overtime. Lots of paid holidays + spring break time off as well. Great for people with a family and who want steady work and stable benefits.
