    Hello,

I have an interview for a big four firm coming up. It’s only the first round, but what do you recommend to stand out from the other candidates? The position I am going for is an entry-level, fulI-time position. I attend a college that several firms recruit from, so I want to make sure I don’t just blend right in with the other students.

Additionally, does anyone know what to expect in the way of a starting salary for a staff associate in the New Jersey area?

    Thanks a bunch!

    FAR 68, 79 (11/9/15)
    REG 75 (6/21/16)
    BEC 75 (1/18/16)

Wow, congrats on your grad school GPA. I actually have a friend who's looking into neuroscience and he is having a lot of trouble finding a job. I would say that it's a very important field and should have more growth and opportunity for those interested in it.

Glad you enjoy accounting, though, and I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for your input!

As a recruiter for our firm, my recommendation would just be yourself. Too many candidates come in trying to say all the right things and ask all the right questions, when really, as a recruiter, we're just looking for staff that can blend in with our current team and looking for someone that the rest of the audit team and audit manager won't want to kill after a few weeks of work.

I will say, for our firm, cockiness is a MAJOR turn off when it comes to hiring.

    AUD - 93
    BEC - 80
    REG - 86
    FAR - 83

Thank you for that perspective! It's difficult to know exactly what a recruiter is looking for in a candidate.

The recruiter for one of the firms I interviewed with last week seemed to really like me. She invited me back for a second round before the interview was over. There was also an audit senior interviewing me with whom I spoke a lot about government audit. Based on this, do you think would it be safe to say I'm a strong candidate for the position going into the second interview?
