Anyone can give me an idea of how much of compensation for staff accountant in public industry should get (main city in OH) .

I have been talking to a recruiter. He brought up a staff accountant job at a public industry in my town and I am having a phone interview with the firm on Monday. He presented me at 35k. I thought it would be 40 or high 30. This job is in charged of fixed assets, JE, BS reconciliation, cash accounting and so forth. The firm operates in more than 33 states. This position actually prefers CPA. I know that I am still working on it and it’s prob why I got the interview. Is 35k too low to start off? He also mentioned that probably work 45-50hrs per week.

I am a hard worker. I have no problem to work that much. I just think compensations should be fair in exchange for hard work. I don’t want to be trapped and eventually jump to another job in near future.

Well I was able to negotiate it up to $20 per hour but their offer was so low and me so desperate that I accepted. I had interviewed with them months before so was surprised to hear from them.

I later questioned why was i so below my peers and response I got was that he I was his first hire, he didn't know what to pay but hr didn't want to give me to much a higher number than my previous position. He also said he couldn't give me a raise because it would lower everyone else's raise. From later conversions with hr it appears that hr never told him that but instead gave him the range for the position.

@Ganondorf Basing it off some friends, family members, and people in other online study groups that I frequent that are all accountants in those states.

Are you in Indy? Seems like you shouldn't have much trouble in Indy with all of their corporate headquarters.

I'm not regional job expert at all by any means, just making generalizations from what I've seen online.

Indy is 50-55 miles from where I live. I have started looking for jobs in Indy since I am finding very little where I do live. I would highly prefer not to work in Indy though because I don't really want to move, and I don't want a 100+ mile daily commute either. I may not have much choice though.
