ParticipantSince the end of November I have been trying to get into a Big 4. I was referred by a friend, of a friend type of deal. They contacted me once in December asking me to complete my “online profile.” When I didn’t hear back for over a month I started to lose hope, and started to contact recruiters in my area. BUT they just contacted me for a phone interview that will take place in a couple of weeks! If I get my foot in the door, I can nail an interview—in person. I’ve never really done a phone interview. I’m very personable, but this is a little nerve wracking! Any advice my fellow CPA family has is much appreciated!!!

ParticipantI received an email to come in for the in office interview next week! The email said the interview is to take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. I thought I've heard from some of you that the in offer interview was longer than this?? Any words of wisdom cyber family? π

MemberThis was a few years ago, but maybe my interview experience can help out some. I got the impression that the initial interview was to ensure that you are qualified to work there. And the second interview is to make sure that you will fit into the culture. When I went into my final interview, it was down to 4 of us. Out of the 4, there were two that stuck out in terms of experience and education. One worked at KPMG for years, and the other had a 4.0 GPA. Those are the two that didn't get offers. The two of us that did get offers were coming right out of the same college and both had around a 3.4 GPA. But in the final interviews (went through 3-4 different employees), they were mostly concerned about finding out what type of people were were and what our interests were and if we would fit in with the rest of the employees in that office. They had already decided that we were qualified to work there, or they wouldn't have wasted their time with the interviews. This was a different firm (PwC) and was in a small market, so I don't know if this type of interview will be similar to yours or not. And concerning time, my final interview was closer to 3 hours + lunch, but the length of time might have to do with coming right out of college vs. coming out of industry. And also you are interviewing at a very busy time, so 1.5 hours might be all the time they have.

Member@Peanut….The final interview was actually less nerve wracking due to what we were talking about. It was more of an informal conversation just about who I am. I do not still work there though. I left for a more regional firm a couple of years ago.
