I have an interview coming up in Atlanta with a large firm (not big 4, but something similar & also trying for big 4). And I’m not sure what to wear. I know the norm used to be a black pant suit with black blazer and all, but someone told me a “dressy business causal” is better. So maybe I should go with a grey skirt and a long sleeve top? Does any women out there want to share what they wore to an interview with a large firm?

Background: female, young 20’s, worked at small firm previously where professional attire wasn’t needed.

I interviewed at large and mid-size firms and always wore a black skirt suit. I don't like how pantsuits look on me, but skirt suits felt both feminine and professional. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a black or dark grey suit, but you could go wrong with “dressy business casual.” Dress that way AFTER you get the job.

A few pieces of advice:

a) Be conservative with hemlines if wearing a skirt. Hemlines we see on tv are WAY too short and not appropriate for real life. Your skirt really shouldn't ride much above your knee if at all.

b) Be conservative with jewelry. I'd stay away from dangling earrings, big necklaces, lots of bracelets, etc. It's an interview, and maybe you end up in a place where such pieces are fine, but be conservative at the interview.

c) Be comfortable. Wear shoes you can comfortably walk in, wear clothes that fit correctly and don't require you to readjust them when you sit down, stand up, etc.

I also always black or grey skirtsuits. I think pantsuits would also be fine. I would definitely go for business professional rather than business casual. You'll want to wear something with a blazer, not just a long sleeve top. For interviews, it's better to overdress than underdress. Flats and (business appropriate) heels are both fine, whatever is most comfortable. I liked to wear heels just because it made me look and feel more professional. As the person said above, be conservative with hemlines, makeup (don't go too heavy on the eyeliner), etc. My skirts were all above the knee but just barely.

Definitely some sort of suit combination. I interviewed with a small-mid size company and the interviewers were also wearing suits!

a dress with a blazer might work as well. I would definitely dress up for an interview rather than down.

Hey, everyone! I have a similar situation that I would like opinions on.

I have an interview at a public accounting firm next Friday. They have casual Fridays, and the director who will be conducting the interview said it is fine for me to dress casual as he will be in blue jeans himself. But I don't want to go as casual as blue jeans! I thought maybe nice structured dark navy blue pants, flats, and a professional, clean cut blouse. Is this business casual enough? Other options are welcomed 🙂

try jegging with a dress shirt.
or you can wear a suit.
It looks pretty and classy on ladies.

Also wear light jewelry like tops and a light locket along with a nice watch.

@Scared-CPA I would definitely go more business casual, maybe dress pants and a nice top or a cute dress. I've always heard it's good to dress one step above your interviewers. If they'll be wearing jeans, I think business casual is fine.
