Wrong Launch Code at Prometric Center?

Okay everyone, this will seem like a strange question but…

As everyone who has taken an exam already knows, the people who work at Prometric have you manually write down your launch code on your scrap piece of paper…and then at the beginning of the CPA exam, they have you manually type in your launch code on the computer.

While doing this, I have been worried about “What if I just typed in the number incorrectly? Then NASBA would never get my scores, and I could’ve just failed this exam before it even started!”

Now, I feel like Prometric already has our launch code in their system when we register for it? So I’d imagine if you were to type in the incorrect launch code, an alert might come up that says somthing along the lines of “this launch code differs from the one we have on record, please retry”?

Does anybody have any comments or experiences relevant to this? I realize it is silly, and an easy answer would be “Just don’t type the number in wrong!”, but I wonder if prometric has some sort of control in place to prevent a situation like that?

It's been awhile since I've taken an exam, but doesn't it pull up your name, section, etc. after you type it in, so if it pulled up a different name or different section you'd know you'd typed it in wrong. I think more likely, it wouldn't allow you to pull up an exam that didn't match the launch code recorded for you (otherwise, people could take other people's exams and cheat), but at minimum, I would think you should know if you were taking someone else's exam.

I also worry that I wrote the wrong section launch code! I am always relieved when it says that it is starting the proper section.

I think that if you enter the wrong code, even for the section, it will tell you because the system knows when you exam is actually scheduled for. One time another candidate had an old launch code for the same section and it wouldn't let him in the exam.

This should be the least of your worries. Carefully write it down , or you won't be able to take your exam and you are out $175 and you wasted weeks of studying.

I ALWAYS write my launch code twice! One time I actually wrote it wrong (missed a digit) the first time I wrote it down but correct the second time, this saved my butt.

IF I FALL, I WILL GET BACK UP. IF I AM BEATEN, I WILL RETURN.
