Realized my biggest regret in life is giving up years ago after failing some parts of the CPA.

Long story short, looking to start again. I dont even have to re- register, i just have to sit for the exams, so not too hard- nothing is stopping me but myself.

ANYWAY- My real question- whats a good CPA review course (not Becker, too expensive)

    Please note:

    1. I am an accountant who barely does accounting anymore
    2. I will only be able to study on breaks, and when kids are asleep
    3. I need to be entertained

    Help!

Hello, welcome back to the journey. If you need to be entertained, I highly recommend the Ninja Products. Jeff is pretty entertaining, but if you need a little more than that, Roger would be the best recommendation. He's super energetic. I would recommend trying Ninja first and then if you need more to grasp the concepts, than try Roger. You should be able to get a free demo of both products.

    REG - 74, Retook 6/10/16, scored a 72 (Hate this exam)
    BEC - 69, 79, 8/1/15
    AUD - 83, 4/4/15
    FAR - 77, 2/27/16

If you need to be entertained than I'd 100% say Rogers but best if you try out a bunch of available options through free tutorials and see what works best for you. I chose Rogers because he ways easiest to pay attention to for lectures IMO and does a great job a teaching the material needed to pass.

    Echo Superdude3000.
Use the free trials of all the courses. They all offer a free trial.
I used this approach and found Roger to fit my learning style the best. You need to see what works for you, but as far as being entertained. That course is about as entertaining as accounting can be.

You can do it! I'm a mommy too. I'm also in the midst. I have a two year old and a six month old!

Welcome back! I'm a working momma with 2 small kiddos (3 years and 8 months) and this is kicking my butt. I always feel like I am behind. I always feel regretful for not studying or not spending time with my family- whichever one i am not doing. I originally picked NINJA, but after getting FAR score back I realized I needed more. So, I chose Roger- but yes I would do all the free trials you can! GOOD LUCK MAMA! YOU CAN DO THIS!

I used Beckers + Ninja for REG (awaiting results). But deciding to go only Ninja for FAR, because I have faith in the material offered. I especially like Ninja's immediate explanations, and being able to click on all the related notes. I believe Ninja alone is do-able, long as attention is paid and notes are read, and of course it doesn't hurt to create your own side notes. I also google a lot, especially for examples to help me understand material better.
    Good Luck

I personally use Gleim and I love it but I must admit it is not the most entertaining. Like everyone else I would agree that Rogers has great lectures, I have included a youtube link with some of his free lectures so you can see what you think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TGvif1ChVw&list=PLYrIr2-uY4ZVegyMNw37SLbIMvBvWHwU9. Welcome back to the CPA battle I know you can do this, I am a work dad with a child and I won't sugar coat it studying with kids sucks it is something you can do, good luck.

Hey there! I use Yaeger for the price. It is cheap and has all of the test bank questions and the books have had everything I need to pass the exams so far. However, its definitely NOT entertaining! Lol I do not use any lectures at all. I think they are a waste of my time so I just study the material on my own.
I am 35 and single working mom of 5 kids… 19, 15, 12, 4, 4 (Yes, my last two are twin girls) I have been going at this for about 18 months. IT CAN BE DONE! I would suggest to start with FAR because it is the longest section to do. Good luck!!!

I'm 35, I have two young ones, a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old, and finding time to study is the hardest thing in the world. I just passed all 4 parts, and I've used both Becker and Wiley, sharing logins with friends/coworkers to save money. I passed two sections with each set of study material and I haven't experienced a noticeable advantage with either one.

The tactic that helped me was writing little notes to myself when I thought a one sentence reminder would prevent me from getting the multiple choice question wrong in the future. The hardest part about studying while raising kids is the study period is drawn out and we forget what we learned 1-2 months prior. So I type out all these little notes into a TXT file for future reference. Some explanations are too long and don't work well with short notes, but if the reminder/note can be summed up in 1-2 sentences, I'll add it to the TXT file. After each section, I'll have a large TXT file filled with one sentence reminders. I then save the TXT files to a text-to-audio streaming app on my phone, such as “@Voice Aloud Reader”. So when I'm running errands or commuting, I'll play the audio from the notes. It'll give me a quick reminder of what I need to know and I can quickly run through the practice questions again closer to the exam date.

I feel your pain, but it can be done! If you want an example of my notes system, PM me and I'll send it to you. Also, I bought several hundred cheap single-use biodegradable microwave safe plates on Amazon to save me 20 minutes on dishwashing every night. The time savings really adds up.

I am 34- work full time 2 young kids 4, and 7. I used Surgent because it is not time consuming. I don't have to spend hours studying. I have to help my kids with homework etc, surgent helps me do that.

I'm 35, been taking exams for about 20 months now. I am recently married, (less than a year) I have a step daughter, foster kids and I work full time as well. It's totally doable but the most difficult part is balancing it all.

You seem to be in similar shoes to me, I work in government in accounting so it's not regular accounting. For me it was like doing college all over again. I vaguely remembered things but most of it was gone. For me, Wiley worked the best. I think the video lectures work especially good for somebody who has been out of practice. Becker explained some things good, but there was so much that just went right over my head. Wiley was way more understandable for me. Here's the problem with Wiley, I have doubts about whether or not I would have been able to pass using their materials alone so I supplemented with the Gliem test bank. Using the NINJA products would also probably be a good option, they charge by month, so you could do the whole Wiley program, then do a final review for two weeks using NINJA. Wiley has a 14 day trial too.

Good luck! You can do it.

I too used Roger and I passed all four in a row, just gotta study hard. I would say for REG however to maybe use Ninja too, though I was able to pass REG the first try only using Roger so it's very possible. Whatever you use, just study a lot, all that matters.
