My suggestion is reading the question extremely carefully and word by word. Audit is considered the trickiest by many for a reason. During the exam I clicked on answer quickly then reviewing it realized it was asking for the complete opposite, and it's usually just a word that makes the entire difference.

Once you begin respecting the exam and stop feeling sorry for yourself you should do much better.

Your excuses are pathetic and will only lead to more embarrassing scores than those you've already posted. The CPA designation is a professional license that comes with great responsibility.

Strong English skills are absolutely a part of these tests.

    Good luck

    well… this escalated quickly…
My advice would be to keep google open in a separate tab from your review course. If you see a word you are not sure about, just look it up. I did this often when I encountered a word I did not know.
That way you know it for the next time. If this is a topic you continue to struggle with, start another notebook with words, and every time you misunderstand a word, write it down, and look up the meaning and write that down too.
Eventually you'll know them all without hesitation.
    Good luck!

@Nicole you should download all the released mcq's from prior years. That'll give you some idea of how they word the questions on the actual exam. Best of luck!

@Nicole: Just keep doing the MCQs. The more you do them, the more you get the gist of how they trick you with their wording. I know it's easy to say, but don't get too frustrated if you get it wrong. If you get it wrong, figure out why you got it wrong. I'm using Becker and I usually do the MCQs per section twice and if I still got some answers wrong, then I come back for them LATER so I don't just memorize the answer.

I do gloss over those words sometimes, and I sit there like wtf HOW is that wrong?? and then, it's that word I glossed over. Then you just learn through experience not to gloss over that word.

@Nicole I agree with what @Recked said. While studying, I always keep a google tab up for words I don't know. The more you practice questions and continue to do that, the more accustomed you'll get to the language they use.

Man @Alloverit. Completely unnecessary. Why would you ever tear someone down like that for aiming towards their goals? No one is perfect, least of all you. Take a step off that high horse of yours and take a good look in the mirror. Passing the CPA exam doesn't make you any better than those who are still struggling to get through it. Good luck Nicole. I'm a working mom of a 2 year old and trying to pass the exam myself. I know how hard it is to juggle all this at once. We've got this!

Welcome to the wonderful world that is the Audit exam. I think it's a little unnecessary. I get wanting a certain level of professionalism in speech and writing. But when writing in the “real world” your work would have gotten torn apart for using double negatives and all the other little nuances you have described, so I find it unfair the exam is structured that way. I feel like Audit is more tricky than the others for this reason – it should just be your straightforward knowledge. Unfortunately, I have felt like a lot of the CPA exam experience has been jumping through hoops personally. As you can see from my signature I've scored on the wrong side of 75 – but yet still in the 70s multiple times. That's the difference between a few questions that could have likely been me not understanding the wording.

I've just been trying to grind through it so that's my only advice. A few of my coworkers are some of the most intelligent people I have ever worked with, and have Audit experience, and didn't pass Audit on their round 1 and they have blamed exactly what you are describing for that.

    Good luck!

I didn't speak English before I moved to America at age of 15. If I passed audit, you can, too.

@COTucker I was literally going to say the same as you to @Alloverit. Respect and being humble will take you further than any license, degree, or money can. Glad @Nicole took the high road in her response.

    Hi Nicole,
I am working on AUD, and English is my second language.
I feel AUD is hard for me because of all the subjective mcq and rarely used terminology.
For me, writing them down is very helpful.
Wiley CPA has Definition section that explains different terminology in detail.

Reading textbook ( college textbook) especially case study part also helps me to understand different consideration in different circumstances. AUD is the only exam that I referred to textbook ( other than Wiley and Roger CPA review)

I also have two little ones (4 and 2) it's really hard to concentrate when they are little and needy. Hopefully you can find the best strategy to tackle this exam.

    @ Icanandwillcpa

She called me a nasty asshole and a loser! If that is taking the high road then that's news to me.

@COTucker. She clearly does not respect the exam…hence the excuses. She even admitted in a follow-up post that she took the exam some years ago without studying.

Once the excuses are gone, she has a CHANCE (certainly not a guarantee) for success. With her current attitude, she has ZERO chance. So regardless of if you think I'm tearing her down…that's irrelevant. Once her attitude about the test changes, so too will her scores. Basically, it seems like some people can't handle the truth. Her excuses ARE pathetic and without a significant attitude change future scores will be equally embarrassing.

    Good luck!

Yeah can't say the high road was taken from the looks of it…
Listen, these exams are tough @Nicole, the only way to get it done right is to study. If you take these exams without studying, unless you are an accounting genius there is no shot. Do MCQ until you can't do anymore, take a break, then do some more. There really is no excuse, except not practicing enough. The language and nuances of questions will come to you.
