According to Roger CPA Review’s study planner, I should be finished studying for BEC in 4 weeks. Well, I just “officially” started studying yesterday and it just seems like 4 weeks will not be enough. Of course, I can tailor my studying if necessary. However, I was just concerned that this timeline seems super short. Maybe I’m overthinking it LOL. For those that are either taking BEC or have completed it in that same time frame, does this seem aggressive or spot on? Personally, I was able to grasp day 1’s stuff, BUT that was only day 1 LOL.

I passed BEC with 4 weeks of studying using Becker. I'm not too familiar with Rogers, but i think 4 weeks is plenty of time to get comfortable with the BEC material.

Did you do MCQs the whole time you studied? Or did you choose to wait until you had watched all of the videos and read the text before you started doing the MCQs? Did you use any CRAM sessions, audio, flashcards, or other review MCQs, etc.?

I used Becker and Becker's Final Review which is basically a cram course. I focused on MC basically the whole time with little focus on the written questions, which are pretty easy to get credit for if you just set them up appropriately. I also used flash cards which were helpful with understaing formulas.

BEC is definitely doable in 4 weeks. I did it in Aug 2015 and I'm only using ROGER. I started studying Aug 1st, but I really didn't get into a good study routine until around the 7th. I started doing MCQ's almost immediately – I created pretests of each section using 25-30 questions from his MCQ bank. If I made above a 70 on a particular chapter, I skipped that chapter's lectures. I saved a lot of time by doing that. I also made sure I had finished all of the lectures I needed to watch by the end of the 3rd week so I'd have that final week to drill MCQ's. Another tip I have is don't spend too much time studying for the WC's. Don't get me wrong – they are still important, but keep in mind they are only 15-20% of your score. You pick up most of the points just by repeating what the question is asking in your introduction and conclusion. You only need 1 good paragraph of actual technical knowledge related to the question.

jdn9201- So, did you start doing MCQ's before the 7th? I'm trying to figure out when to fit those in. Thanks for the strategy! I'm actually setting up the practice quiz right now. I do not enjoy wasting any of the valuable and very limited time I have LOL. Regarding the WC, it seems quite a few people share your sentiment. I wonder if they give partial credit for the WC.

I think I did some MCQ's prior to the 7th, but I had a hard time getting motivated and in a good routine. I also kind of had a leg up because I nearly passed BEC the prior year without studying at all. I think they do give partial credit for the WC, so it's not all or nothing. Roger's lectures are very good, and necessary for concepts that you are completely lost on. He also does a very good job at preparing you for the WC's. The key I think is to get through the lectures so that you're not lost on anything, but spend as much time as you can doing MCQ's.

I think the important factor when it comes to making a study plan is to know yourself. It really depends on whether you are a fast learner, average, or really slow learner. Some people may pass in 3 weeks, others 3 months. It also depends on what else you have going on in your life (Yes, the CPA exam should be top priority but other things in life come up). I am also currently studying to take the BEC exam. Because I am working my first busy season and I am a slower learner than most I am giving myself 11 (15 hour) weeks/165 hours total to study the material.

I came up with this number by calculating the total time of Roger's lectures and adding to it the time I plan to spend reading the book/writing notes on the material (total lecture time multiplied by 3 hours). Then I added two weeks for re-writing NINJA notes and 4 weeks for NINJA MCQs/Simulations.

I think Roger has really broken down the BEC topics into easily digestible material. This is better than I can say for FAR which was chaotic. I have not scheduled an exact date for the exam yet in case I grasp the material faster than my plan.

SGShiver, I think you're absolutely right! Personally, I think I'm a rather quick learner when I'm interested in the actual topic. However, I can be a very slooooowwww learner when it comes to stuff like this LOL. After reassessing some things this afternoon, I think testing right at 4 weeks is definitely doable. However, I'll be cutting it rather close to March which would force me to wait until the first week of April. Hopefully, I'll know for sure by week two of studying whether or not I need to reschedule.

Regarding Roger's and FAR, did you like it overall?

KGREEN37- Roger's lectures were great for FAR and what he said would be on the test definitely showed up on the test. He had a few great mnemonics and was motivating to listen to even after a day of work, but FAR in general had a ton of information to go through. Overall, I don't believe Roger has enough MCQs so I would add a supplement such as the NINJA MCQs but his lectures are spot on.

SGShiver, after spending money on the review course, I find it insane that I have to spend even more on NINJA MCQs. Though, that seems to be the going feedback on this forum. With that being said, I definitely want to give myself the best fighting chance. So, it looks like I'll be investing in the NINJA MCQs and possibly the audio (depends on how I feel a couple weeks from now).

Anyone giving FAR in April-2016. I am studying from becker and right now in F2. My exam is on April-13. This is my first time to sit in the CPA exam. Suggestions if any.
