I am STILL working on passing this test, but my concern is approaching a firm to work for that 1 year experience. After being in small business for 20 years how do you approach a firm for a position without presenting myself as competition.

I would seek out an aging professional that would be looking to exit in the next 5-10 years.
By taking you onboard, they could potentially be setting themselves up for an exit with a potential buyout in the future.
