What percentage of exam questions were verbatim from your study material?

Many questions I’m sure are exactly stated as in your study material MCQs, whether it is NINJA, Becker, or Yaeger, etc.

What percentage would you say were exactly or mostly recognizable for the most part?

    25%+? 50%+?

Zero %. I have never had a question on an exam that was the same as the study material. The AICPA is diligent about making sure their questions are original and thought provoking. I have used Becker and NINJA extensively for the last year.

I should add that you can learn the material and some questions do look familiar- maybe 10%. I’m not trying to scare you, but you need to be prepared for these exams. They are nothing like college where you get to study questions and the same questions pop up on exam day. This will never happen. You need to learn concepts through making notes, notecards, doing questions and studying review of questions you miss. 😉

I agree with stilgoin, the questions are constantly changing. Yes you might see some that are similar, but never word for word exactly like one you've seen before.

    REG: 84 (10/5/15)
    AUD: 83 (11/23/15)
    BEC: 77 (2/27/16) - The bubble sucks
    FAR: 90 (7/20/16) - AND DONE FOREVER!!!!!

So out of the 1,393 questions available on the NINJA BEC MCQs, none will actually be on the exam? Damn

It may have happened once or twice on conceptual questions. Can't say it was 100% word for word though.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)
    REG - August 27th, 2016

From what I understand, most of the questions used in the programs such as NINJA, Becker, Gleim and Wiley are mostly AICPA previously released questions. The more MCQs you do, the better. The information is important, but you also get a lot of practice with the style of the question and you learn to decipher the answers more easily with more practice. I have taken 8 exams- life happened and it couldn’t be helped- I didn’t put them on my signature becaue I’m trying to be more positive and release the negativity. lol Anyway, my point is, I have more experience than I care to think about with the exams. Study hard and the last couple weeks hit the NINJA MCQs hard and you will be able to tell where you stand by your NINJA score. I averaged MCQs per day- 200 AUD, 100-150 BEC, 150 REG and could barely do 100 FAR per day. I studied full time, so you need to adjust if you work. I will say if you use Becker, some of the questions seem like overkill. I 100% liked NINJA better for BEC and REG. Not sure about FAR yet. Good luck!!

I have heard people say that it has happened but I cannot say that it has ever happened to me, at best, like stilgoin said that some are more familiar than others. I think that a very small percentage is bound to be completely unique.

Study material MCQ are released retired CPA exam questions. The reason that they are released is because they are no longer being used. You should never encounter a MCQ on the actual exam that is exactly the same as the study material unless it was pure coincidence that two separate questions were written exactly the same.

    Aud: 77 (Wiley Test Bank)
Reg: 61, 76 (Wiley book, Wiley Test Bank)

I didn't see any. I did notice on my last test that a lot of correct answers to the questions were “$0”.

And with Ninja and CPA Excel, when in doubt…choose “Fair Value” or the most long winded answer.

None for me as well. I just got back from BEC and can confirm that everything was new to me, and I attempted 100% of the NINJA MCQs.

    FAR - 74 (7/20/15), 81 (10/12/15)
    AUD - 72 (11/30/15), 81 (1/18/16)
    BEC - 87 (6/6/16)
    REG - 8/8/16

I can say there are some questions that I took on FAR that were word for word with a few questions from Ninja MCQ except a word was taken out or changed.

2% that there is something similar when you take FAR. As for the other ones, I did not see anything remotely similar to the questions I've studied in my study course.

    FAR 84 (AUG '15)
    BEC 83 (AUG '15)
    AUD 79 (OCT '15)
    REG 71, 78! (NOV '15, FEB '16)

The way you have to look at it is this: there are only so many ways they can ask the same types of questions. So chances are, if you can answer specific questions about complications (for example) in your study materials, you should still be able to answer it on exam day (given the knowledge you have gained from the questions you HAVE seen).
