What is the Reason behind only each exam once per testing block?

I have just been thinking about it today…I can’t think of an actual reason as to why you can only take the same exam once in the same testing block. Can anybody speculate as to why?

I can think of one: You may get the same question again if you take the exam in the same quarter.

    BEC 84

I imagine it's because the AICPA doesn't want test takers “on the bubble” to schedule multiple exams in a row, for example, and end up getting lucky so to speak on one of them.

    AUD - Pass
    REG - Pass
    BEC - Pass
    FAR - Pass

I think its because the questions would be too similar. So if you took the exam on say May 10th then again May 30th, you would probably have two very similar exams.

This is an issue for US universities that recruit from countries that allow a person to take the GMAT multiple times over consecutive days. Its’s really not fair since you cannot do this in North America.

I think 1dayatatime probably has the best reason here. If you could take the exam multiple times a window you'd see people (who don't have financial constraints) taking the exam several times a window just hoping to get a passing score. Its like the old saying “even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile”. Giving candidates only 18 months to complete all 4 parts and only being able to attempt each part once per window reduces the chance a candidate is going to pass by just taking blind shots in the dark.

I heard that the sims are tested in cohorts … do not know if that is true though.

I think another potential reason is that they don't want people being able to memorize all the potential questions. I have known people who can go take a 90-question multiple-choice exam and seriously somehow remember all the questions (maybe not word-for-word, but pretty close) when they get back out to their car. If someone could take the exam – say – 6 times a window, and release those 6 exams worth of questions per quarter to current students and say “these are the questions being tested THIS QUARTER”, don't you think people would buy them? It's unethical, against the rules, etc., but people would do it. By limiting how many times someone can see the exam questions each quarter, it limits how much information a person can claim to have (though I'm sure people still claim to have more, but their claims are more easily debunked).

I saw someone post in a thread the other day that one of the 2017 changes was going to be the removal of the once-per-window limit, though. Not sure if that was accurate or not, but if so, that would I know be a much-welcomed change!

Same reason people install antivirus software – they don't want no spammin'
