TncincyParticipantWhat is it about doing mcq’s that make me shy away. I can read notes, I can listen to audio, I can almost read the chapter, but consistent with these questions. If i get on a roll, I can’t seem to stay on a roll. I can’t get to that mcq until I puke….Am I normal? I have exactly 20 days(again) til test time. and no I don’t feel ready or that my study has been effective.

ruggercpa2bParticipantI know exactly what you mean. I have resorted to doing sets of 10 to 20 at a time. I also set a goal for myself of how many I would like to get through each day. With audit, its a little easier to get through a handful in an hour since its mostly theory.
However, there are days that I just cant get myself to do many questions. I have to say when I got my 73, I did not get through all the MCQs in the Ninja testbank. I focused more on understanding the material and getting through what I could.
My attention span is just not that great to sit there and go through hundreds of questions in a day. I have to switch it up.

AnonymousInactiveI definitely found them easier in smaller chunks, like sets of 10. On bad days, I'd set myself rewards, too – like pull up a TV show or movie online, set a timer, watch 5 minutes of it, then go do 10 MCQs. Only if I got over some percentage on those 10 was I allowed to go watch the next 5 minutes. That way the desire to see what happens next in the movie/show was enough to keep me going with the MCQs. The correct percentage wasn't set at anything high, but something that required I was actually paying attention to what I was doing, not just pushing buttons to get through them (so, 30% wouldn't let me watch the next 5 minutes, but it wouldn't require 90% either 😛 – if I was trending around 70%, then 70% on my set of 10 would be sufficient to watch the next 5 minutes, but if it was towards the end of my study, then I might require 80%; at the very start, 60% might be enough).
Also, if you're willing to sacrifice your health, candy is a great reward. Smarties candy is particularly good for studying – I used to get a dish when I was reading and put one candy on the dish for each page I needed to read, then eat one every time I finished a page. Any other small candy – M&Ms, Skittles, etc. – can work the same way. I've tried it with healthy things like chunks of carrots and it's not nearly as effective. 😐 But, the plus side with something like this is it gives you a visual progress bar, too, as the candy disappears. Say for your 100 MCQs goal for today, 100 Smarties or 100 M&Ms at the start of the day, split into 10 piles of 10 each, disappearing as the day goes on, shows your progress towards your goal.
According to a quick Googling, it looks like 100 dark chocolate M&Ms would be about 400 calories, though, so the movie would be healthier than the M&Ms…but it'd also add 50 minutes to your study time. Oh, and it's imperative that you set an alarm for the 5 minutes to watch the movie, or at least if you're like me, you'll find that the 5 minutes stretches into “well I'll just watch till the end of this scene…” and before you know it, you've done 20 MCQs and watched the whole movie. 😐

hasyParticipantI know HOW you feel!! I find it so EASY to do Roger questions but I HATE NINJA…. it scares me so much seeing my score in the 70s. I have 28 days! But I'm almost done with all the FAR questions, so I'm prob going to reset my stuff near the end of this month…. Good luck!!

golfball7773ParticipantWhat works for me is doing a couple sets of 10 for about 30 minutes and then taking 10-15 minutes off to do yardwork, house work, cook, etc. Then I repeat. I have really bad ADHD

Accountant183748ParticipantI do something similar to golfball. Have you heard of the pomodoro technique? I downloaded a pomodoro app on my phone so basically you focus for 25 mins, no distractions, then take a 5 minute break. After four pomodoros you take a 15 minute break. But you can play around with the focus and break times to what works best for you.
During my 5 minute breaks I try to do something like stretching, jumping jacks, or just walk around my apartment. During the 15 minute breaks I watch TV like Lilla said (or eat) haha

TncincyParticipant@Lilla, I have done the movie thing before. I have sling tv on my computer and I listen to the sports shows in the back ground while doing mcq's. I thought maybe I that was my hindrance. I can get at least 60% out of 10 questions. I guess I am anxious to feel ready for this test.

sancasukiParticipantMy experience with FAR was that I was not getting enough practice from the review course I was doing. I did all the reading, all the Sims, all the MCQs, but I was still very shaky on most subjects. It's just with FAR, there is soooo much to get through that you can't spend a lot of time on one lesson.
So when I was going through the Ninja MCQs, I felt like I was learning all over again and not actually reviewing. I felt mentally exhausted after doing 200 questions in one day. I really don't understand how some people claim to do 300 or 400 in a day. They must be spending less than 1 minute per question. I felt that sessions of 30-40 questions were ideal. 50 questions will make your head hurt and 10-20 questions leaves too much risk of procrastination.

TncincyParticipant@ circadian, that's how if feel. the book says exactly what the explanation says from the questions, so I put the book down. But you are absolutely right about the amount of questions and the time it's consuming. I,m doing 10 to 20 question sessions, and writing those that I get wrong or guessed the right answer. It take a lot of time writing those wrong answers and understanding the calculations, until I can't get and stay on a consistent role. So you know I'm no where near puke stage….lol

AnonymousInactiveI couldn't watch the movie while working, so I'm sorta like vanessa in that regard, but I could have music on most of the time. However, I have 7 siblings, so I'm more used to a loud environment than a quiet one – there's some times I have to turn on something to make noise to help me focus! lol! Good thing I never had one of those days on test day… “Excuse Prometric Personnel, can I have a recording of kids making noise so that it feels like home?”
