What is "Good" on Testlet 1?

It’s well known that if you do well on Testlet 1, Testlet 2 will advance in difficulty, and that it’s also a good sign because you can score more points with harder questions.

But what exactly does it mean to “do well” on the first testlet? Does it mean missing just one or two questions, or do you have a little leeway?

I suppose it’s not really important, but I’m just curious. I’ve taken four exams, passed three and very nearly passed a fourth, but I’m almost positive I’ve never advanced to harder questions in the second testlet. Is it THAT critical to passing as long as you’re consistently getting enough points throughout the test?

My vote is its not critical, and its something they made up to get people overthinking these exams. Ok, its probably legit, but how does a well prepared person who does well on the whole MCQ tell if it gets “harder?” I think that term is relative, and I think people overthink this way too much and it makes them miss points elsewhere in the exam because they care about this.

My uneducated assumption is that if you answer around 23-25 questions correctly on your first MCQ testlet, then you will be bumped up to a more difficult second testlet. I have absolutely zero way to prove this, its just an assumption.
It is not necessary to “bump-up” to pass the exam you are taking. Yes, it can really set you up to earn lots of points, but you have no real control over the situation (other than your preparation) and if you get an question incorrect, it is still a zero, no matter which level of difficulty it is.
My best suggestion is to focus on the question in front of you, rely on your training, and move on to the next question. Don't go back to review too many questions, it will eat up time and really make you start second guessing everything you've done.
If you have put in the effort and studied, you will eventually pass – it took me 1,100 hours of study before I passed all four sections.
Put in the hours and rely on your training, you will pass.
