What happens when exam sit-in requirements changes?

    Hello,

I am preparing for the cpa exam in California, and was just wondering what would happen if the requirements to sit in for the exam suddenly change, when you have already passed a few sections? Lets just say that hypothetically that they added more course requirements in order to sit in for the CPA exam next year, but you have only passed one section. Would I be grand fathered in with the old sit-in requirements or would I have to take the additional courses to satisfy the new requirements first ? Has anyone gone through taking the CPA exam during a transitional period of the sit in requirements?
    Thanks in advance.

Contact the CA boards. When the 150 credit rules hit, at least in NY people were grandfathered in to it.

Is that something that is being considered? I have not heard of any states changing requirements recently… I wouldn't spend time worrying about it

I have not heard of CA changing the requirements either, but I would be interested to hear what your research has shown.
The current 3E pathway is the recommended path, and has been adopted by most states and regions, except NY and OH still offer alternate pathways.
I'll concur with Anthony on NY as that is the only state I have experience with. Once NY switched to the 150 hour path, 120 hour people were grandfathered in as long as they filed their application and paid the fee by August 1, 2009.
The grandfather period is indefinite to my knowledge, but I think most people that would be grandfathered have either completed, or given up.

I doubt you will have any issues or anything to worry about. Usually when large changes in requirements are planned, not only do they let you know way ahead of time but they also tend announce the time of implementation at least a year or two in advance. Like when California did away with the 2 different paths and began offering the single path (150 unit requirement) I remember already knowing about it in 2010 before it took place in 2013. Same with the exam changes. When they changed/updated the exams, I was aware of it a little under 2 years before the changes took place. So assuming you start now, if any major requirements change, more than likely you would be done passing the exams before any implementation takes place unless you take longer than expected and you have sections that expire and etc etc.
