I just went through the Reg 1- Reg 6 Becker lectures. This was the tax portion of Reg. All I did was just high level annotate the book while listening to the lectures and a little bit of mcqs. I don’t feel comfortable with the material at all. At the end of R6, Peter Olinto recommended that R1-R6 should be mastered before moving on to R7-8 (business law) because you can pass without learning business law, but cant pass without mastering tax.
In this case, should I go through Reg 1-Reg 6 a second time and try to master it like Peter said? Or should I move on to Business Law and then go back to the beginning? I’m definitely having trouble with the material so I wanna know what you guys recommend. My exam is on Dec 3 btw.

Go back through R1 – R6 until you understand that material. Look at the calendar and setup a schedule to hit your goal for December. Leave about a week before your exam for practice exams and tons of mcq’s. Becker isn’t lying, you need to really understand those topics before moving on. I also felt that by doing progress tests and setting them up for R1-R6, 5 questions each, and doing that almost daily brought me back to speed. Really read the wrong answers and write down the right ones. Do this over and over as you go back through. This test is no joke but You got time, put in the effort and you will do great.

Until you do MCQ you don't know how much you don't know. Hit the MCQ in Becker-in each chapter and go through the book, and make notes especially on things you got wrong…Doing MCQ is the only way to learn this stuff..I would definitely focus on tax portion first… You have plenty of time.

IMO you should have had a pretty good understanding of R1 before going on to R2, let alone moving onto R7 when you don't have a good understanding of R1-R6. It's way better to tackle this material piecemeal than to try to learn it all at once.

I had a pretty good grasp on tax, and then moved to law but left about half the tax MCQS, so I could circle back and focus on tax more after I finished the law sections.
I knew tax was more important and wanted that to be my main focus area right before the exam.
As long as I was pulling passing % on tax, I felt comfortable not completing all the MCQs until after I finished law.

Thanks everyone! Yea I agree, I am going to go back to R1 and study more thoroughly. I like go to through the material once before just to be mindful of any key words/concepts, but I dont think moving forward to Business Law is a good idea until you have the Tax portion down.
