MaLoTuParticipantI was always curious what everyone here does outside of studies and work?
I know some of you are into cars, but beyond that I don’t hear too much. I have a small backyard farm with several chickens and goats, plus dogs, and I have a horse that is kept at a stable. My main motivation for working is to buy an actual ranch, lol. I am always wondering if anyone else raises livestock or has horses.
So what do you do?

dess213ParticipantI play the violin in my local community Orchestra. I also love to crochet. Both have kind of fallen to the wayside since studying though. I am really looking forward to getting back to lessons & having free time for hobbies once I pass this last exam!

TheHoundThatRidesParticipantI lift weights. I get sad when my CPA studying has to take me away from deadlift time. π
I also read. I'm almost done with “A Feast for Crows” from Game of Thrones.

jessica8926ParticipantI use to row in college and I did it for 4 straight years, but since starting work and studying for the exam I have not been able to in a few years. I have started to dream a little about what it will be like to have more time and MAYBE get back into rowing.

AnonymousInactive@dess213 I'm jealous of your crocheting! I used to crochet a lot, till my wrists started hurting from it, I think carpal tunnel or something related. Thankfully crocheting is still the only thing to trigger it, but I've had to drop crocheting for the last few years. π
Outside of work/accounting/CPA stuff… I'm afraid I'm a little boring. π My body requires more sleep than most people's, so that doesn't leave much time for fun. But in the time that remains, I like to play video games (multiplayer, preference for PvP), and to do crazy things in the kitchen. Most recently, my boyfriend wanted “fun fries” – just potatoes, but something more fun than standard shoestring fries. So, I cut the potatoes thin, got out the food coloring, and made a multi-colored design out of his fries, topped with a flower that looked like a red water-lily. My kitchen creations usually don't top the flavor-charts (bf is a fan of simple tastes, and I don't care enough to make complicated dishes for just me), but I when it comes to creativity, I think I do quite well. π
I make plans and/or buy seeds most years to start a small garden, but for one reason or another haven't gotten far with actually growing things. However, I really really want to change that this year. I think I might make a small garden space along the front of the house, trying to combine decoration with food value, and plant peppers, tomatoes, onions, and sunflowers. Perhaps an odd combination, but hey, it's my house, I can plant what I want to! π
Last weekend I ordered chemistry, biology, and physics books, to refresh and/or gain knowledge in the scientific realms. I've never taken a physics class, my biology class was in 8th grade (I took it early π ) so it's been awhile, and my chemistry class in high school I really struggled with, so I decided to get some good text books and self-teach my way through all 3. Biology should be the easiest, since I've taken it before, but it's been long enough that I'm sure to have forgotten most of the material. π Once I get the sciences re-mastered, I've thought about digging into history, cause I hated learning history when I was in K-12, so I'm sure I missed some important things that would be good to re-learn now that I'm mature enough to appreciate them.
So, I guess my hobbies are video games, cooking, thinking about gardening ( π ), and learning.

MaLoTuParticipantLilla – One year I planted about 16 heirloom tomato plants and they grew to be 6 foot tall, it was really fun. You should try to get some heirloom seeds. I had white tomatoes, pink tomatoes, purple tomatoes, lol.

I think it's awesome you're going through academic textbooks. I actually plan on doing that once my relaxation period is over after passing the exams. I would love to learn chemistry and engineering. I was never good at science in high school but I like to think I might be a better student now after dealing with the CPA.

dess213Participant@Lilla, my wrists are going bad too. Crocheting doesn't bother it too much, but I think being on the computer all day, playing my violin (which your left hand is not in a natural-type position in the slightest), and crocheting is taking its toll. π
I love cooking too. How in the world did I forget to list that!? Those fun-fries sound awesome. I'm going to have to give that a try. My bf is similar, he'd be happy with meat, potatoes, and pizza for the rest of his life.

AnonymousInactive@MaLoTu I have some heirloom seeds from R. H. Shumway's, but they're a couple years old. I'd like to try them, still, and see if they work. My house has about 6′ of cinder blocks under it, so plants that are 6′ tall would help block the ugly blocks but not get in the way of windows at all. That was part of my goal with the sunflowers – something tall to break up the boring blocks.
@TheHound I did great with my biology class, but really struggled with chemistry. I thought maybe it was like with math, that people are usually good at algebra or geometry but not both. My plan originally was to get more certifications post-CPA, but decided the others I was looking at wouldn't really help my career and would cost $$$, so back to high school instead. hahaha.
@dess Take out the meat and my boyfriend and yours are just alike! Almost all meats make my bf sick, but pizza and potatoes are his steady diet (with a bit of pasta thrown in). He can enjoy the fine variations between types of potatoes – like fries cut 20 different ways are 20 distinctly different dishes to him – which is admirable, but at the same time, it's all still potatoes…which is why I've gotten creative with my potatoes. I've made moon-rover-landing-themed potatoes, potatoes made to look like a pizza, potatoes themed around a hobby he was enjoying at the time, etc., so that I can have my fun kitchen explorations but he can have his consistent foods to eat. π If you don't have one, you should get a set of garnishing tools. I think this is the set I got: https://www.amazon.com/Norpro-300-Garnish-Kitchen-5-Piece/dp/B000HJXJ6G/ It's not complex, but it's allowed a lot of fun options. π

AnonymousInactiveI haven't had cable TV for over 10 years but I occasionally buy shows and movies on iTunes. Last week Game of Thrones went on sale so i bought seasons 1-5. I am in the middle of season 2 now. Good show!
