What can you get from REG AL/IRC?

    Hi Ninjas,

    My reg is next week so I am starting to cover simulation starting today.

    I was wondering what kind of information you can get from the research tab for simulations;

    So far it looks fairly limited. I could not research any numbers (ex: exemption, deduction, child tax credit etc.) or any other meaningful information while searching.

    For example, I am aware that premium on life insurance policy is not deductible, but searching “personal deduction” does not yield any information. Again, spending not much time so I could be wrong but what/how do you use research tab information for? For audit and far, it seems fairly straight forward to me.

    Materials: Wiley book + Ninja MCQ

    FAR - 83 (Jan 2016)
    Study time: 6 weeks
    BEC - 87 (April 2016)
    Study time: 2 weeks
    AUD - 92 (July 2016), (74 Feb 2016), (72 May 2016)
    Study time: 4 (Feb) + 2 (May) + 3 (July) = 9 weeks total
    REG - (70 April 2016)
    Study time: 3 weeks

    The IRC is a lot more tedious than the AL for audit. With audit, you're basically led to the relevant paragraphs even searching general terms, but I've found that knowing the subtitle under which your REG query falls helps a lot with navigating the table of contents.

    For instance, if you want to research something on gift tax, you know that's Subtitle B ‘Estate and Gift Taxes', and you click on that and dive right into Chapter 12 ‘Gift Tax', and employ some ‘search within' keywords to narrow your search.

    ouch on your Audit.

    you will need to know how to search to pass b/c they will throw in situation to calculate certain amounts that are not typically covered by your review material. at least be familiar with SUBTITLE A – Income Taxes (§§ 1 to 1564) section. i still don't get how they can test you in 3 hour when the amount of REG material is at least twice more than any other sections.
