Just for fun: What type of superstitions do you guys/girls have when preparing/taking the CPA exam?

I’m generally not a very superstitious or religious person at all, but every CPA exam I’ve worn the same shirt given to me by my accounting firm and a necklace given to me by my grandma that I kiss before each exam.

Any superstitious traditions that the rest of you do?

I always eat Cracker Barrel for breakfast before, listen to a lecture I'm having trouble with in the car on the way over, bring the same type of protein bar to eat on my break, and make phone calls to my husband and mom on the way home. For the score I try to go to sleep and don't set an alarm; I do end up waking up somehow and checking it right when it's either been released or about to be, and then I text my husband and mom.

I have a few. I wear the same shirt and sneakers, get a plain bagel on the way to the center, and try to use the same number locker at the pro metric center.

Another weird thing is that I've only passed tests that I have taken on weekdays. The 3 that I have taken on weekend days I have failed. So going forward, I will only be scheduling my exams on weekdays

@kdawg22 I use the same number locker too! And same sneakers now that I think about it. Hope my locker will be available when I take FAR 😮

I wore the same long sleeve relaxed tee every exam. My cousin had given it to me and on the back it says something like the important things in life are family, friends and adventure and had a jeep on the back. It just kind of reminded me to relax and chill out. Once I wore it the first time and passed, it went to the final 3 exams with me as well. It didn't let me down!

@jbeaty0507 The accounting shirt I always wear is a comfortable long sleeve too! I'm kinda hesitant to wear it considering my test is in August, but probably wouldn't be an issue since the test center's have A/C…right?

I don't not Greek Yogurt before exam otherwise everything would look Greek to me .

@Accountingbeans I always found it cold in the test centers anyway, and if I ever did get a little warm, I just pulled up the sleeves. It was light enough that it never bothered me:) Good luck! Only one left!

My only one is go to the same place until I fail, my first testing site was over an hour away due to timing i had no choice. I passed two there so i kept going there until I missed one. Now i am on my third place.

I wore the same jogging pants for every exam. I texted my wife, mom, brothers and sister from my car asking for their prayers before I walked in the testing center every time. After every exam I always text them and say I think I probably failed, pray for my sanity. I also only took exams scheduled in the afternoon.

Not superstition, but ritual. I always head to the same starbucks after every exam (and normally not care about the calories), since you know before the changes, there was no bathroom breaks allowed so I chose NOT to drink water during the exam.

I think that mine was pretty unique. I would wear the same outfit (jeans, sneakers and hoodie), but I would also always bring a good luck charm that I would place in my locker. Said charm was an old Star Wars character of Lando Calrissian that my daughter found in my old room at my parent’s house. Something about walking into the joint with Billy Dee Williams just gives you confidence. Even if he was in action figure form.
