Hi guys
I’m close to finishing the education requirements to become eligible to sit for the CPA exam. However, I wanted to confirm with someone here that there are no *specific* class requirements (for WA State) to take the CPA exam, such as taking at least one taxation-related class. It seems that any combination of classes that meet the required amount of credits would suffice.
I majored in a non-accounting field (though I’ve taken several of accounting classes beforehand as I had previously been an accounting major, only to switch majors), so I’ve been taking classes at a local community college. However, I have yet to take a taxation class, and I figured I’d review that part during the CPA review studying. I emailed the WA NASBA coordinator asking about specific class requirements, and they responded with the below:
-24 semester hours (36 quarter) in accounting subjects, of which at least 15 semester (22.5 quarter) hours are at the upper level or graduate level.
The following are examples of acceptable accounting courses:
Introductory/Elementary Accounting
Intermediate Accounting
Advanced Accounting
Cost/Managerial Accounting
Audit
Tax courses
Accounting Information SystemsThe following are examples of acceptable upper level accounting courses:
Intermediate Accounting
Advanced Accounting
Managerial Accounting
Cost Accounting
Governmental Accounting
Auditing
Tax Courses
Accounting Information Systems
Not-for-Profit Accounting
Accountant Theory
Forensic Accounting
Financial Statement AnalysisI was wondering if any WA students knew of the requirements and could let me know if there are any specific class requirements?
