    Hello,

    I recently graduated with an undergrad in accounting with 135 credits. I need 150 to sit for the CPA in Illinois and read Illinois accepts CLEP exam credits towards the 150 credit requirement as long as the CLEP credits are transferred to an accredited institution and appear on my official transcript.

    Is this still possible even after I graduated? Is the process of transferring these credits to an accredited institution easy? Please help me as this is the cheapest way I will be able to sit for the CPA exam and would like to sit for the exam as soon as possible. Thanks again in advance for your insight.

    I used 6 CLEP credits in Maryland. I graduated with 124, then enrolled in my community college, took a CLEP there then transferred them in. It’s a really easy process. You just contact the CLEP agency and get a transcript and send to your accounting organization for validation.

    @ash Did you apply those credits towards the required accounting and business credits for your license in Maryland?

    @melonbread No I didn’t, my degree I got from my university satisfied all my accounting and business credits. These credits were used simply to satisfy the 150 credit requirement. I took college math which was worth 6 credits.

    @Amens
    Which course did you use to transfer the credits into?

    @Jnwilliams328 It didn't transfer to a particular class, it just appeared on my transcript as a general math class.

    I live over in Wisconsin and didn't have a problem using CLEP and DSST credits. The big thing is to make sure that you find a four year university to accept them and then issue them on an official transcript as well as obtaining an official transcript from the college board (at least in Wisconsin). If you can't find a local university or your alma mater Excelsior College in New York or Thomas Edison State University in New Jersey are pretty accommodating towards transferring CLEP and DSST tests.

    hey when you enrolled, did you enroll as a student pursuing a bachelor degree? I'm trying to earn few more credits in the same way you did. Just a bit confused…

    I'd just enroll at a community college and have the CLEP credits granted there.

    I work abroad, so enrolling at a local community college is not an option for me 🙁

    instead I am thinking of using Excelsior College and having them transfer my CLEP credits. I am just so confused if I would have to enroll at Excelsior as a student pursuing a Bachelor degree, and actually not take any course from Excelsior…
