[GA] I am so confused about law classes. Nasba website says:
Can law courses given through the accounting department be counted toward the upper level accounting requirement?
Tax law is the only course counted toward the accounting requirement.

The class I’m trying to take is word for word everything from REG.. So is that Business Law? Then what the heck is Tax Law? Or are they the same thing? Am I overthinking this?

    here’s the course description:
ACCT 4XXX- Regulation of Accounting Profession
An overview of the areas of law relevant to business transactions, with a focus of the impact of the law on accounting professionals. Topics may include, but are not limited to, agency, contracts, the Uniform Commercial Code, debtor/creditor relationships, securities regulation, entity selection, trusts and estates, and other areas of law typically covered on the CPA exam. Professional responsibilities of accounting professionals will also be addressed.

I emailed nasba/state acct board and they still have not responded yet..

I took Business Law and it counted…. but I also had taxation classes, so not sure…I took an Advanced Accounting Certificate which is geared toward people studying and applying for the CPA exam. My education requirements have been cleared…Maybe it depends on the state though-I am in MA….

I know in Illinois, there are business requirements as well as accounting course requirements that must be met to qualify for the CPA exam. My undergrad wasn't accredited through a CPA recognized place, so I relied on my MBA to qualify me for the CPA exam and emailed the Board to make sure I knew what accounting classes I had to take. So maybe that course will count towards something else, but I don't think it would count towards taxation. As you would imagine, business law and tax law are different beasts.
