I know this has been discussed in the past and I’ve read through those old posts from the past years.

My question – how have you gone about getting the units needed to get to the 150, AFTER you had graduated several years prior?

I am trying to find a faster route than community college or UCLA extension or those previously suggested routes. I was hoping to use CLEP but I cant find a college that accepts CLEP that will enroll me as a student so that I can transfer CLEP results to them. They all want me to apply and enroll in a masters or graduate degree program and I have zero interest in that.

I get why they have an issue with it…conceptually I am trying to get them to give me credit from their school without me having to pay them full value of their tuition/unit costs.

Anyone find a fast way to test into units to meet the requirement after they had graduated?

I am doing WGU right now. $3000 for 6 months. They do a competency based model, so you just need to pass their test to receive credit. they are accredited. I spent a few days studying for an Intro to HR class and passed. 3 credits down, 18 to go.

interesting murd thank you. I had looked into WGU but the person i spoke with when i called for some general info said i needed to be pursuing a degree in order to be admitted, they didn't just do open enrollment. Did you just pick some masters or grad degree as your “intended” just to get admission to get rolling on a 6 month window. I am otherwise very interested in WGU and their competency based model. I am willing to throw money and dedicate weekends at a time to knocking out the stupid final units i need

So annoyed, i have all of the accounting/business/other accounting study and all but the ethics in accounting course from my undergrad, just literally need units in anything. i will def look into that HR class if i can get into WGU successfully. Any others you suggest im all ears.

I don't remember the EXACT number but over two semesters at GWC/CCC, I crammed like 27 units. I think 19 units were from spring semester alone, so maybe you can get more. Some of classes started and ended at different times, hence why I maxed out on the units per semester. Also, I would advise going to Foothill College since their classes are a joke, the accounting ethics is EXTREMELY hard to get into, so beware and make sure you camp out online for that.

If you need a bunch of units, I think it's even easier since some accounting classes require a homework software or some textbook.

hasy thanks for the info, GWC is Golden West College? Did you do those 27 units online, or you actually attended in person?

I have actually already completed the application for foothill (tried to get into the ethics class online last quarter, currently waiting for my 11/22 assigned registration date to try and get in for winter quarter). I have found a bunch of other seemingly easy classes to take from foothill online over the next two quarters, but the cost is going to be about 5,700 and its going to span at least until the spring quarter ends, which has me thinking maybe something like WGU or other competency based options are a better fit. At least with those I can pay less and work at my own pace to knock them out in a weekend or two rather than going at the pace of the foothill online instructors.

Were you able to do the foothill classes at your own pace and work ahead if possible? Or did you have to keep pace with the instructor each week?

I saw that you were talking about UCLA so I assumed that you knew socal CCs. But yes, GWC = Golden West Community College and CCC = Coastline Community College. I tend to avoid OCC (Orange Coast College) bc it is SO impacted there.

As for fees and whatnot, I would really suggest applying for FAFSA or financial aid. One of the MAIN reasons why I chose to attend Foothill is that they ACTUALLY gave me SOME aid, like it covered enough for like 1-2 classes and I only needed to take 2 classes so the only out of pocket expenses I had to pay was like less than $500 (which, thankfully, my company covered).

All my classes at Foothill were online, even the exams, hence why the joke. However, for GWC and CCC, I know I had to take my ethics exam in person, since it was an essay. Maybe another exam in person. But overall, I've always made sure that I can do the class online. I can honestly say that at least 40 units of the 150 was taken online. The pace is like ten weeks, like in a quarter system. I do not know of other means for you fast track your units, aside from CLEP, which you still need approval from the community college you're getting the credit from. There may be some nice professors (Lisa Drake) that will allow you to take the exam early (I had a trip to Japan).

    Good luck!
