    Hello –

Quick question. You know when you get to your computer at Prometric and you have to type in your code to start the tutorial? Well, that tutorial is 10 minutes long, if I remember right. Can you spend those ten minutes writing down formulas before the exam starts, or is that against the rules?

Also, does anybody know if you can chew gum while testing?

    Thanks,

    Jon

Once you are in the testing room with your two boards and pens and enter that launch code, you are free to do whatever you want. Once the clock starts, that time all yours! And no Gum please. Good luck.

The tutorial screens that pop up BEFORE you actually launch your exam give you 9 minutes, I believe, that is not counted as part of your CPA time limit. You can use those 9 minutes any way you see fit, but watch that clock!!! I've heard horror stories about people running out of time in those tutorial screens and not being allowed to take the test as a result.

As for the gum – it'll depend on your testing center. 2 of the centers here in Dallas allow it, and one does not.

That 10 mins is your own time and doesn't count to your exam time. Just make sure you watch your clock.

Let me ask a related question. After you enter your access code, a picture of you will show up and ask you to confirm that is you. 🙂 I believe that doesn't count to the 10 mins and the exam time. You can write some note, take a nap, draw some pic, and then confirm the picture at last. What do you guys think ?

Interesting strategy marqzho. Now I wonder if there's a time limit to enter the launch code.

I'm not sure if this is the same nationwide, but here in Illinois/Chicago, we have two 10 minutes. First 10 minutes when you're assigned to your seat and pc is prepped. You have 10 minutes to enter your code. And another 10 minutes once you enter the code to go through the instructions.

i have utilized this strategy with the multitude of BEC formulas. of course i then never used them on the test, it was more a comfort thing. but yea thats an ingenious way to use those 10 minutes and definitely not cheating.
