Trouble making progress with FAR

I’m having a lot of trouble diving in to FAR. I’ve never passed a section before, but I got 72 on BEC and 64 on AUD as my closest scores. I’m using the full Ninja course.
I have a lot of trouble reading things I’m totally unfamiliar with, as I zone out, so I actually go backwards- start with MCQ, then the book. Once I get an idea of what the MCQ look for, I can read about them and put it in context. AUD and BEC worked out fine that way, but I feel as though I’m not getting anything from the MCQ I’m doing. (Averaging 30%)

I end up trying to do one or the other for about an hour, get frustrated and switch to something else and end up wasting the day.

I was able to break BEC down in to more manageable chunks, and half of it was pretty easy for me (IT, Governance, Econ) and AUD was similar, but FAR…. FAR is crazy and I’m having a hard time with the basic concepts before even getting to the advanced concepts. Is there something that will break them down to be even more simple?

If you post MCQs you are struggling with on the FAR Study Group, there's usually someone that will help you understand it. Plus, it's a good review for the person that helps you out.

I think in order to be good at FAR/Financial Accounting, you have to have a mind like a mechanic.

Imagine you are a mechanic and the balance sheet is the device you are creating/engineering. There are a lot of moving parts and you have to know how and what each part is capable of doing. So basically FAR covers each account on the balance sheet (and the many different types of transactions in each of those accounts) so that you can become a master mechanic of financial statements.

There are just a lot of small and tiny moving pieces, but the goal is to familiarize yourself with the financial statements piece by piece and eventually it will all come together.

Or if it helps, imagine you are a doctor that is about to perform surgery. You have to know all the bits and pieces and details of how the financial statements work in order to be a good doctor.

This kind of mindset helps me with this exam since accounting itself isn't exactly the most fascinating or interesting thing in the world.
