Transferring Exam Scores

    Hello everyone.

I found out last week that I passed all the exams, and really thought that would be the hard part of all of this.

I’m in TX but a CA candidate because we are headquartered there and I might move there soon. My plan was to get licensed in CA and immediately turn around and apply for reciprocity with TX, as others have done recently, so I could be licensed in both and free to work and live wherever.

CA requires your direct supervisor be an active CPA, though they will tell you different things when you call them so the “direct” part of supervisor is in question. Anyway, it turns out, my direct supervisor is an inactive CPA, not an active one, and there is no one else that can sign off on my experience. I’m not willing to wait for 2 years for him to become active again and then an additional year to actually get the experience under an active CPA.

I really want to get licensed in Texas eventually but I didn’t meet the education requirements of having enough “live, in person” accounting classes. I have everything else and have passed all 4 parts of the exam.

Does anyone know of the best state to transfer my scores to now so that I could apply for reciprocity with Texas later?

Congrats on being done with the exams.

Well it doesn't bode well if you were supervised by an inactive CPA. Most states have this requirement. Hate to sound like a downer but you really should've checked your supervisor's status and gotten on his ass about reactivating. I would've resigned if that wasn't taken care of in a reasonable time-frame.

Now you're in the situation you're in.

Pick some other states you're interested in, look up their statutes, and brainstorm what your next steps are. You may be able to successfully petition.

Did you check Virginia? It use to be a non CPA supervisor state. Not sure if it still is.
