Hi all! So I figured i’d give you all a little study break and ask for your opinion on something. This is something that i’ve always contemplated and I’m curious about others’ opinions lol.

Okay so basically we all know that the CPA profession stresses a lot about ethics and such. So with that being said, don’t you think it’s a little contradictory to call it the “CPA Exam” when it actually consists of 4 separate exams.

I personally didn’t read into the “CPA Exam” until I was in junior year of undergrad and only then did I realize that the “CPA Exam” isn’t actually just one exam but rather consists of 4 separate exams…

It's the “CPA Examination” or currently the “Uniform CPA Examination”. The examination is one “exam” consisting of four separate sections.

The CPA exam was once a 2 day exam offered only twice a year, similar to the BAR exam that can be 2-3 days depending on state.
Once the CPA went away from paper and pencil to a computerized format they were able to offer it more than twice a year.
It has also transitioned from an exam that you had to take all at once and hope for 2 passing scores to carry over and only need to repeat the fails, into an exam with 4 sections that you can take individually.
The bar exam also has multiple sections, but is still referred to as a singular exam.
I agree that you must be bored, but I can also see the interest in the topic.

LOL, maybe a little odd but unethical is a stretch.

What I do consider unethical is the complete lack of transparency when it comes to scoring the exam, as well as how long it takes to get a score. I know they claim there is an extensive review process, and the scoring gets done by the AICPA, then they go to NASBA, then the state boards, which all takes time. I'm sorry, but in the age of information technology, there is no excuse for that gap between testing and score release. The entire process could very easily be automated.
